This brain dead bubble blower refuses to even try putting someone between Soto and Judge. Maybe length in the lineup and get another try getting another bat going.

Rough week trying to catch games but I guess they have just been nightmares. I will see how it goes today. There has been a lot of talk on the radio programs about the Yankee culture being bad. I know I pour it on the guy but this team is just like Stanton. Always hurt. Not expected to give 100%. Content with showing up and just DH'g and not laying it all out. Guaranteed a spot because of high pay even if not playing up to standards.

Torres out, Carbrera in. Soto at DH. Volpe fifth. I know it's a day after a night game, but I'd put Wells at DH, this team is desperate for offense.

Got to get DJ going. Looking at those numbers for DJ, makes me pine for Tony Womack.

Put Verdugo to try and get him going. What do they have to lose except more games? Or just keep doing the same shit everyday.

The only other options are Wells, Gleyber, Jones, and Davis I believe? Gleyber obv day off after the injury. Jones and Davis don't really move the needle too much. (Though I think Davis prob has some random HR in him eventually) Wells I think is coming around, but day game after night game wasn't going to start. Could put Wells at DH instead, but I'm guessing with the Boston base running speed they want better OF defense? So Wells really is the only player here that you can make the argument for playing instead.

Sign A-Rod to get his 4 HRs. Can't be worse than what they run out every night.

The Sox send Josh Winckowski to the mound to try to win their 5th game in a row, their 4th game in a row vs. the Yanks and the Sox 2nd straight series against the Yanks. Taken in the 15th round of the 2016 Draft by the Jays, Toronto had him in rookie-ball for the last part of the 2016 season, and sent him back to the same level in 2017. He did not pitch well either year, but he moved up to summer-A ball in 2018 and did much better there. He split 2019 between Low-A and High-A and did better still, 10-8 with a 2.69 ERA in 23 starts. Like all other prospects he spent all of the COVID season of 2020 in developmental, and just as spring training was getting underway in 2021, the Jays dealt hiim to the Mets along with pitchers Yennsy Diaz and Sean Reid-Foley in the trade for Steven Matz.
Just two weeks later, the Mets dealt him to the Red Sox as part of the 3-team trade that sent Andrew Benintendi to the Royals. That season, he made 20 decent starts at AA, so the Sox brought him to AAA for a cup of coffee to close out his season, and he made two good starts at Worcester. Starting 2022 back in AAA, he made 12 decent starts there, and the Sox called him up to fill a rotation slot after some injuries left openings. It didn't go very well, in 14 starts for the Sox, he was 5-7 with a 5.89 ERA. Last year, the Sox used him almost exclusively in relief and he did solid work as a middle/long reliever, pitching 84+ innings to a 2.88 ERA. To open this season, they kept him in the pen, and again, he was not nearly as good, with an ERA over 4.50 in 7 games and 11 2/3 innings. Having multiple injuries in the rotation forced the Sox to give him three abbreviated starts, and he did well, giving up just 2 runs in 10 2/3 innings. He went back to the pen for two games, and then the Sox sent him back to AAA to stretch his arm out for a return to full-time starting. 7 starts laster he was throwing 5-6 innings and 75-85 pitches a game, so they called him back up. He pitched six solid innings of long relief in his first game back, then threw 5 good inning start against Padres last time out, earning a win to help the Sox avoid being swept that series.
On the season, Winckowski is 2-1 with a 2.89 ERA in 4 starts and 10 relief games. In 35 1/3 innings, he's allowed 37, 18 runs, 11 earned, just 2 HR, and 12 walks, while striking out 28. His WHIP for the season is a substandard 1.387. This is Winckowski 6th game and 3rd start against the Yanks in his career. They've hit him pretty hard, albeit in very limited exposure. He's 0-2 against them with a 6.52 ERA. In 9 2/3 innings, he's allowed 9 hits, 7 runs, all earned, 2 HR and 8 BB(!) with just 5 K's. His WHIP against them is a very poor 1.759 and the team's quadruple slash line against Winckowski is .250/.400/.500/.900 in just 45 PA. He pitched 4 games against the Yanks last year, and all of them were brief, just 1 ER in 4 1/3 innings. In the 3rd of the 4 games, he served as the "opener" and pitched a perfect first inning, striking out 1. In his only real start against them in 2022, they knocked him around for 6 hits, 5 walks and 6 earned runs with 2 HR, taking the L in a 6-5 loss at Fenway in early July. Not sure how relevant any of that is to his current ability as a starter, but I guess we'll see later today.
Repertoire: Winckowski is a tall (6-4) 5-pitch righty. He throws both FB, but 90% of them are sinker; he uses the 4-seamer maybe 4 times a game. He also has a cutter that he relies on heavily, a curve and a change. His sinker doesn't break much, either way. He cutter drops almost like a vertical slider, he gets the 4th most drop on his cutter of any of the 159 major league pitchers who throw one. He also gets well above averge drop on his slider. His cutter and slider also get better than average glove-side break, the change gets better than average tail in on righties and away from lefties. His FB velocity is above average, but his spin rate is in the bottom 10% of the league. Despite his height, his extension is average, more or less. By run values, the cutter and slider are pluses, the other three are minuses. Given the relatively small number of pitches this season so far, those plusses and minuses are significant. His barrel percentage is significantly better than average, while his hard hit rrate is right around average. His line drive rate is above average, and while his overall flyball rate is below average, his infield popup rate is well above average. Both his whiff and CSW rates are slightly below average. His BABIP and strand rates are slightly below average and his ERA simulators are considerably above his ERA. Is that luck or great outfield play? I don't know.
