Not sure who the last Yankee rookie to hit 3 in a game is. Any ideas. Rice got a curtain call for that one and deserved it.
Soto works the count to 3-2, then flies out to Rafaela in center, 2 down.

Judge falls behind 1-2, works it back to 3-2, and takes a change on the inside corner for the ꓘ, inning over.
Top 8, 14-4 Yanks.
Valdez, Yoshida and McGuire are due for the Sox in the 8th, against....Maciejewski? Not sure who else to bring in with a 10-run lead, and he hasn't pitched in 6 days. Maybe Tonkin for an inning first? I dunno.

OK, that answers that question, Rice is the first Yankee rookie to hit 3 HR in a game. Aaron Judge was the last Yankee to do it, hitting 3 HRs in a game twice last year.

I guess Devers taunting is the new Naylor baby thing. Yankees +10 since.
I don't think Rizzo will be starting for this team anymore. If he even comes back this year.

Yoshida fouls off a sinker below middle, 0-1 Takes a dubious strike on a back door slider, 0% on Gameday, but close to the zone, 0-2 Takes a change bounced outside, 1-2 Takes another one boounced outside and back to the screen, 2-2 Chases a 3rd change just off the plate low/away, tips it into the mitt, K, 2 down.

McGuire takes a sinker on the corner waist high, 0-1 Takes a slider well low and outside, 1-1 Takes a sinker well outside and a bit low, 2-1 Takes his timeout Gets a sinker on the corner inside and up, pulls it foul, 2-2 A big breaking slider winds up in a bad spot above middle, but McGuire fooled by low speed and big break, swings under it for the K. Inning over. Maciejewski strikes out the side on 14 pitches.
Bottom 8, 14-4 Yanks. Verdguo, Volpe and Grisham for the Yanks in the 8th, and unless a curse of Biblical proportions is laid on the Yankees pitching in the 9th, the Yanks need 4 batters to reach safely to get Rice a shot at his 4th HR in the game.
