Verdugo takes a cutter to the knees, outer 3rd, 0-1
Splitter drops below the waist, outer 3rd, popped to the left side, Rafaela goes back to the short grass, catches, 1 down. Another veryfast out for Crawford.

volpe takes a slider just below and outside middle 0-1
Again pulls out early on a slider, barely checks on the slider low/away, 1-1
Cutter below the knees in the middle he tries to go to right, but it slices just foul, or he'd have had a double.
Stupidly tries to pull the cutter low/away, and hits a soft liner off the end of the bat that Rafaela catches with a little jump.
He was taking that pitch to right, and if he doesn't find that again, his average will wind up where it was last year.

Wells goes after a 1st pitch cutter in the zone, low/away, rolls it over to Smith at 1st, takes it to the bag, inning over.
Who the hell is this, Greg Maddux? Come on, already, hitters. If nothing else get to 2 strikes and foul some pitches off. Start Rizzo choking up and spoiling if you can't do anything else. I know, I know, they can't reinvent themselves on the spot, but this is nuts.
7 pitch 1-2-3 for Crawford AGAIN< and 40 through 5 innings.

Change tails well outside, 2-0
The double on the FB above middle maybe scaring Smith off the Fb?
FB above the zone, Smith jumps at it, fouls it off.
Slider misses down and in, and he's a pitch away from blinking first.
OK, challenged him with a FB near middle, pulls it through the 34 hole for a leadoff single
And this might be the crisis point for tonight.

Change to the low inside corner, taken by Rafaela, 0-1
Chases the FB well high, outside middle, 0-2
Gets under a slider misses about 6-8 inches outside at the top, 1-2
Change dives well low, even Rafaela can take that one. 2-2
Slider away, spoiled foul off 3rd, and this is beoming a long inning, the Sox are about to get to the 3rd time through.
FB zooms well high, Rafaela checks in time, 3-2
Danger pitch here.

Slider backs up on the inner 3rd, a hanger, but Rafaela missed it, popped foul near home, much easier play for Wells this time, catches, 1 down.
