Yanks gain a game on the O's, who were shut out by Shota Imanaga and three relievers, 4-0. A's lead the Sox 5-2 bottom 8 in Fenway, so the Yanks have a shot to gain a game on them as well. Jays an Giants just getting underway at Oracle Park in San Fran.

Grisham is a humble guy. No wonder they really like him in the clubhouse. yeah seems like a really good guy.

Wow, only saw last 2 innings and highlights. Nice, much needed win. The Rays helped us a bit tonight and it's much appreciated. Maybe it starts a streak.

The Rays got 10 hits, all singles, and 5 walks, but got just one run out of it. It was nice to see the other team fail all over the place with RISP, 0-10. But the Rays put 26 balls in play tonight: 3 between 90 and 95, 3 between 95 and 100, 7 beteen 100 and 105, 3 more between 105 and 110, and one over 110 (the grounder to short by Diaz). So they were hitting well but in poor luck. Yanks can't count on that tomorrow.

A recently rare three stars of the game:
3rd star of the game: the bulloen before the 9th...Hill, Weaver and Kahnle weren't sharp, multiple balls hit hard and multiple at-em balls for key outs, including the lineout to right by Arozarena that got Hill and Stroman out of the 5th, and the DP grounder that Weaver got from Wells hit right at Torres to get out of the 6th. But they pitched 3 scoreless innings in relief and got out of multiple jams. They were lucky a bit, but didn't fold.
2nd star: Clay Holmes, who started with a huge stroke of luck himself, giving up a liner in the gap in right center with 2 outs and 2 on to the first man he faced, Diaz, but Grisham bailed him out with an outstanding running backhand catch, saving a 2 run double and probably the game. Then Holmes got worked a bit by all 3 batters, but none of them hit anything hard, and he struck out the dangerous Paredes (5 K's now in 6 AB vs. Holmes) and Josh Lowe to end it.
1st star: Grisham, who drove in both runs with a double in the LF corner that was nearly a 2-run HR, a sac fly, and made the great game-saving catch in the 8th off Diaz. He hasn't been one of the top 3 stars often this year, but he was crucial in the win tonight.

The Yanks do indeed have a chance to win their first series in the last 7 tomorrow evening. Game is at 6:50 pm again on YES. Nestor Cortes, 4-7 with a 3.41 ERA, but 4 good starts in his last 5 games with just one win to show for it, goes for the Yanks. Shane Baz, making just his 2nd start off nearly two years on the IL with various elbow hurts and treatments that finally resulted in Tommy John surgery in September of 2022, goes for the Rays. He pitched OK in his first start in Texas, losing 3-0, going 6 innings, giving up 3 runs, striking out 6 and walking 1.
OK, game preview done, I go to catch up with notifications.

Once Holmes got the great play in the 8th from Grisham, he had a nice 1-2-3 9th and he is the closer, so the game isn't won until he finishes things off. It's maybe one cents worth of difference, but my penny goes to Holmes, because the game isn't over until he strikes out the last two guys, both capable of tying the game with a home run.
