i remember earlier in the season when our starters were giving us length and out pitching the other guys. now they can't get out of the 5th. for sure the offense isn't holding up their end pressuring the other team's starter but it all comes down to pitching. It all comes down to the lineup. It was our Achilles heel in 2023 and it continues to be now. In the last 25 games, I think we've scored first 5 times. When you put that kind of pressure on your pitching, it shows. did mention the offense ... but it seems every time i tune into the game lately, we're a couple runs down and playing catch up. that puts pressure on the offense. since this slide started on june 15, the starters have an ERA north of 7 - not a recipe for success. and yeah the offense sux but it works both ways.

Qwik, your second sentence up to the comma can actually pertain to much of the Boone tenure. I'd say you're right to a certain extent, 55. The thing is, Cash has never had a hitter as great as Judge, or a pitcher as great as Cole. Longoria was a tremendous player, and the Rays were able to keep him for 10 seasons, but Cash had him for just 3 and he was never as great as Judge was in the seasons Judge was Healthy (2017, 2022, and this year). McClanhan is a great starter, but he can't stay healthy, and neither could Glasnow. Having that concentration of value in 1-3 top players is an enormous advantage to a team and a manager. What Cash has had is a more balanced roster with multiple options everywhere, and the last 2-3 Yankee teams haven't had that. Cash works through that, and knows their strengths and weaknesses inside and out, and always seems to use the players in spots where their strengths can shine, and the weaknesses are hidden, or at least diminished. I don't get that impression watching Boone work with the Yankees roster. Maybe that impression is wrong and maybe the main fault is Cashman's roster construction and not Boone's manipulation, but I think that if you watch them head-to-head, you'll see Boone cornered far more often than Cash, and Cash ready with a good move more often than Boone. Qwik, thanks for the thoughtful reply. It's funny because when I was watching the second game there were a couple times in key spots Cash didn't go to his bench and at least to me it looked like he could have created more favorable matchups. But then again maybe he knows his players better than I do and it's easy to second guess when players don't come through. I guess I don't follow him closely but my gut tells me he's pretty good. I agree about both the superstars and the balanced roster. With the Yankees financial situation they should be able to pay some superstars and still have a roster that is more balanced than this one is. We need some younger players to contribute to balance out the top salary guys. Perhaps Volpe, Wells and Rice are the start of that but I wish Volpe and Wells hit a little more consistently and while I have figh hopes for Rice I just haven't seen enough yet. They are all young so they should continue to improve. So often it seems like Boone has to make a choice between 2 players who are both struggling. I think he'd be a better manager if he had a better pen and a decent bench.

When I was still working we had organized stretch breaks scheduled several times during the day and employees were encouraged to stretch on their own. I hope you do some streching every hour or so if you are at the desk for long periods. I also used one of those work stations that would rise so you could work in a standing position, it really helped.

Do long term deals result in less roster flexibility for Boone ? In an era where teams only carry 13 position players, how restraining is it to manage with a Hicvks, Stanton, Rodon, LeMahieu, Kahnle or other high paid vet with limited skills having a bad season ? Given the contracts an MLB rules, Boone is often left with few good options.

And maybe I will look into the adjustable desks. I've heard good things about them. Thanks for your suggestions.

I think he'd be a better manager if he had a better pen and a decent bench. The bench has been awful for years. Honestly you look at the lineup we trot out everyday and there are only 2 guys who seem capable of getting big hits in crunch time. Soto and so far Rice. Judge is great but he needs to produce more in big spots. This week alone there have been several opportunities where he has come up empty. The most disappointing aspect IMO on Volpe and Wells is lack of plate discipline. Both always seems down in the count and even when Volpe is ahead of the count he swings at pitches out of the zone on 2-1 and 3-1 counts. At this point I am not sure he will ever hit for a high average if this continues. The other big disappointment is Torres. He is basically a non contributor and quite honestly not a clutch player. I really did not think he would get a hit in the 9th last night and even if he had walked next guy up was Trevino who is a really bad hitter as well. This lineup has too many holes which leads to so many missed opportunities where we need a hit. Do not see much changing even when Stanton comes back as my guess is he will look really bad in the box the first few weeks like he always does coming back after an injury.

There are times when I feel Volpe just does not want to walk. He does seem to swing a lot of bad pitches even when in a hitters count. Hopefully he learns, still very young. I think Wells has a better understanding of the strike zone and is more selective. What I find a little frustrating is that he fouls off a lot of pitches he should be hitting hard and I think that is one of the reasons he alaways seems to be hitting with 2 strikes.
