Here's hoping Trevino doesn't have hamstring issues.

OK, game 2 in tomorrow at 4:05 on YES. Luis Gil tries to make it two good starts in a row after five bad ones, and gets to try again against an O's lineup that blew him up for 7 runs in 1 1/3 innings the last time he faced them. He's lost 4 in a row, and is now 9-5 on the season with a 3.27 ERA. Grayson Rodrigues starts for the O's, and after 3 strong starts and 6 in his last 7 games, he's tied for the league lead in wins, 11-3 on the season with a 3.52 ERA
Game preview down, I go to catch up with the notifications I missed during the game...

It looked like Hyde was pointing at assistant hitting coach Casey Dykes (not that there's anything wrong with that), who looked to be the first one out of the dugout. Excellent simultaneous pun/Seinfeld reference.

Supposedly, Accuweather minutecast for the area of Camden Yards says a medium shower goes through in about 20 minutes and some lighter steadier rain about 1/2 hour later, but maybe between 8:30 and 9:00 the heavy rain comes in for the night. So maybe they can get in 5-6 innings before the rain stops things. There's about a 0 percent chance they get 9 innings in tonight. The Yankees were in town early last night; I kind of wish they moved this game to a 6pm start. We were both wrong on this one, nw. They got it all in, through the raindrops in the 9th.

Bounces a cutter well outside, 1-2 FB 4-5 inches outside but the call on the 1st pitch forces a chase and a foul. Sweeper outer 3rd, below the waist fouled, still 1-2 Takes the sweeper about 4-5 inches outside, Rutschman held the ball hoping for the call, but it wasn't close. 2-2 Sinker above the inner 3rd, fouled off FB about a foot outside below the the knees, 3-2. Good job working the count, even if it comes to nothing. Sinker waist high away, topped to Westburg on the right side of 2nd, Verdugo upset missing that pitch and doesn't run hard, Too bad, Alex, run hard anyway, throws him out, 1 down. And now Povich is done at 95 pitches. Verdugo about to wear out his welcome It might be fortunatel, for once, this contract ends when the season does.

Encouraging... The Yanks have one hit off of Povich.. The Orioles have 32 hits off of Cole... This should be interesting and of course a test to see if Cole is back to Cy Young status.. Cole pitched a solid 4 innings against them at the Stadium his first game back. If he can do that for six ininngs tonight, it'll have to do. Not a call, again, just a hope. A loud hope.

under the radar a bit is the return of the bullpen. since last friday's debacle when holmes allowed the HR to yoshida, they've allowed 3 runs in 22.1 for a 1.22 ERA.

I mean, it's raining pretty hard, too. So losing a pitch is more likely. Obviously! I have to remember from time to time that I don't have to always state the incredibly obvious, the merely obvious will do just fine. (That line is stolen from Hawkeye Pierce in an old epsiode of M*A*S*H).

It looked to me like Trevino may have pulled his left groin. Yeah, that didn't look good at all. If they have to put him on the injured list, the do get the All Star Break as part of that.

There's a reason why I call it the 9th inning relaxation moment, bump. Believe it or not, I started that 9th inning relaxation moment gag almost 20 years ago at the old place. The original star was Kyle Farnsworth, and it was the 8th inning relaxation moment in front of Mo, who was almost always relaxing. It passed to Dellin Betances, and moved to the 9th inning during the Chapman Era, then to Zack Britton when he closed for the Yanks with his control problems then back to Chapman, and finally to Holmes when he became the closer.

See the players of the game the same way, bump. Jack just said what I said: no way that Holmes was delberately throwing at Kjerstad in that spot. yeah that would be crazy. holmes loses his mechanics at times and doesn't know where the ball is going. clearly that one got away from him. am worried about carry overs however, particularly retaliation. we'll see ... I would expect retaliation at some point in this series, maybe tomorrow. Soto and Judge better stay loose up there the next couple of days.

One thing about Farnsworth, no one with a brain was starting a brawl with him.
