Rice swings over a curve that was thigh high on the back door, 0-1
Bounces a curve down and in, Rutschman gets caught between trying to move his mitt to block and it gets by him, wild pitch moves the runners to 2nd and 3rd.
Change misses outside, 2-1
Misses a curve in a crushable location outside middle, fouling it off.
And that slows his bat down enough so that he's beaten clean by a waist high FB at 97 for the K. 2 down.

Sinker middle-in above the waist, grounded up the middle, Henderson knocks it down behind 2nd on the OF grass, did well to keep Judge from scoring but Soto comes in on Torres' RBI single, Yanks take a 1-0 lead!

Wells fouls off a FB inside middle, 0-1, missed a good one there Austin.
Takes a change outside, 1-1
Change missed high on the outer half, called a strike anyway, bad call, 0% on Gameday, missed by 2-3 inches, 1-2
Change below and inside middle, fouled.
Bounces a curve inside, Rutschman stops this one, 2-2
Throw over.
Change on the corner away popped foul way back of 3rd, Hays playing to pull can't get 3rd, Urias battles the sun but can't move quickly enough, it lands foul, Henderson was playing near 2nd, couldn't get over. Wells gets a small break there.
Curve above the waist inner 3rd, pulled foul.

9th pitch of the at bat coming.
Hangs a slider down the middle with a neon "Kill Me!!!!" sign on it, and Wells obliges, belting it way out of the Stadium to right, an enormous 3-run HR gives the Yanks a 4-0 lead!!!!
Great start against a pitcher they'd never scored on before.

For some reason, I only have the Baltimore feed and not YES. Oh, well, I get to listen to Ben McDonald, Baton Rouge native and LSU boy. He's a solid analyst. First time I haven’t had YES in ages… Do you have McDonald’s accent, Rizzuto? … It depends on the situation. If someone knows I am from Louisiana before they speak with me, they say they can hear an accent. If someone is speaking to me without knowing where I'm from, when they find out I am from south Louisiana, they ALWAYS ask why I have no accent. In my experience, no one hears anything unless they are expecting to hear something. But, if someone has a very good ear for regional differences, they should be able to hear something when I pronounce words with an "a" in that it sounds closer to an "o" such as in the word "farm" sounding a bit closer to "form." |

Yanks put up a fat crooked number in the first, and make Rodriguez throw 33 pitches in the heat as well.
Now we see whether Gil's changes in his last start against the Red Sox will counter the game plan the O's threw at him when they torched him at the Stadium last month.
