Don't look now, but Austin Wells just lifted his OPS over .700 and his BA to .224. If he starts squaring up the ball, he will become the bat everyone expected him to be. He came into this game with a line of .286/.375/.643/1.018 in his last 32 plate appearances. He just added to it!

Henderson takes a 98 FB well outside, 1-0 FB misses just outside above middle, close, but not a strike. Wells is wrong about that. Slider is on the inside corner, but Wells had to reach across for it, blowing the call, Bad call anyway, 75% on Gameday. FB above the low inside corner is called a strike correctly, 3-1 Bad slider in the drop the bat happy zone lined to right for a leadoff single.

Rutschman takes a waist high change on the corner away, 0-1 Then a 96 FB just a bit lower than the change, 0-2 Late and flies open, misses well up and away, 1-2 Takes a slider about 4-5 inches inside below the waist, 2-2 FB waist high about 5-6 inches outside, fouled. 10 pitches for Gil now.

Slider in and up in the zone ties him up, he pops it high to right side, Torres fights the sun, catches, 1 down. Santander, an interesting test for Gil is up.

First time I haven’t had YES in ages… Do you have McDonald’s accent, Rizzuto? … It depends on the situation. If someone knows I am from Louisiana before they speak with me, they say they can hear an accent. If someone is speaking to me without knowing where I'm from, when they find out I am from south Louisiana, they ALWAYS ask why I have no accent. In my experience, no one hears anything unless they are expecting to hear something. But, if someone has a very good ear for regional differences, they should be able to hear something when I pronounce words with an "a" in that it sounds closer to an "o" such as in the word "farm" sounding a bit closer to "form." I don’t hear much about my East Coast sound, but once in a while people from out there will accuse me of being from Pennsylvania, which I almost was, about 2 miles off the Mason Dixon line, or Virginia. Only once they got MD right. Seems to be a forgotten state… Met a guy on jury duty that is going to be assigned to work 3 MD projects and is excited to go. Was asking me what it’s like. As with most states it depends where in the state you’re bound. He has no idea yet…

FB above the inner 3rd, Santander leans out of the way for no good reason. 1-0 Misses outside with a FB, 2-0 Change drops low enough in the zone, so Santander's big hack is a foul bounced near home. 2-1 Back door slider stays waist high, and Santander guides it to the left of 2nd for a single, Henderson stops at 2nd with 1 out.

Both hits are off the slider, but so was the popup. Change tails well outside to o"Hearn, 1-0. Slider clips the corner inside, not called, 2-0. 25% on Gameday Slider hangs waist high, outer 3rd, O'Hearn takes, 2-1 Change outside, popped off the end of the bat to short center, Volpe goes way back to make an outstanding over the shoulder catch. Grisham wasn't there, because he moved back on the swing, so Volpe did very well there. 2 down, 1st and 2nd for Westburg.

This is the worst pitchers' umpire I have seen this season. Tight strike zone. Better it's Gil than Stroman.

Old friend Gio walked off the Dodgers with a home run. I really liked Gio.
