Are there any lightsout closers right now? I know a lot of people on his board thought Edwin Diaz was a lights out closer ...even though he sux every other year I'm sure some of us would love to have Kimbrell who the Yankees lit up last night for his 5th BS ... Hader has 5 loses and a 3.85 ERA (highest paid closer in MLB) At least 2 of Holmes 6 BS were with 0 ER - 7 of 19 runs allowed this season have been unearned He's not great but ... take those 2 blown saves away and he'd be a top 5 closer this season If you remember at the start of the 2024 season the Yankees fielding bailed out Holmes more than a couple of times. They bailed him out by fielding the ball hit to them? Isnt that what supposed to do ???

Yes he did. He left room for 1 error not 2 He still had a bad pitching line. So what? He still did better than Volpe and Verdugo did in that situation

I expect a Closer to pitch well. Is this silly question time? If so I have 1 for you... Do you expect fielders to not make any errors?

Is this silly question time? If so I have 1 for you... Do you expect fielders to not make any errors? Of course fielders make errors. And when they do they don't blame the pitcher like some knuckleheads would. Of the play in the ninth, a simple grounder by Ryan Mountcaste, Volpe said he was “still processing it. To me, it’s a routine ground ball a million times over.”Instead, he said his footwork was off and he didn’t handle the ball properly in time to get the force at second. And then Cedric Mullins lofted a fly ball to left that Alex Verdugo misplayed into a game-winning double.
Statcast listed Verdugo's catch probability on the game-ending hit as 99%, Volpe said of his error, “It’s a play I know I’ve got to make and anything after that doesn’t matter.” Bottom line ... Pretty or not, Holmes did his job ... his fielders did not

I think it may have a little to do with the trend. Haven't researched it but it does feel like we have given more games away that should have been in the W column than games we unexpectently won. Trends can turn just as quickly as when Yanks went from almost unbeatable to where they were prior to the Baltimore series. I'm looking to get back on track post AS break. I think it was on yesterday's broadcast when it was shown that at this point Yanks are heavily favored over the O's to take the division. Why? May have something to do with the fact that they have an advantage in home games remaining. Yankees august schedule is really soft. They also have already played a bunch of their Al East schedule already as they have played Toronto 3 of 4 times, Tampa 3 of 4 times, and Baltimore 3 of 4 times. Only Boston is the one with 2 series left. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

despite how bad we've been, we're still very much in the thick of it. we control our destiny though don't like the trend line. for sure cashman has to shore up the bullpen if we are to have any shot in the PS. 3B and a bat off the bench would be useful as well. 64 games. will the real yankees please step up.
As frustrating as that loss was, no need for anyone to climb out on a window ledge. It's one loss; Yanks took the series...away. May come into play re a tie breaker, but that seems remote. On the old Pinstripes Plus forum there was a very nice fellow who would often say after a tough loss that he wasn’t going to open a vein over it. I wish I could recall his name. He had an ill son, and I felt bad for him. As he said, it made him pray to a god he didn’t believe in. I always hoped his son would get well….

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk On the broad cast during the game there was a graphic offered that gave the Yankees a 60% chance of making the playoffs vs. 40% for the Orioles. Ben McDonald said he didn’t understand how that could be since the Orioles were (and are still) ahead of us. I figured it had to do with strength of opposition remaining and the fact that the Yankees have a huge number of home games remaining in comparison to Baltimore…

Understood...but it doesn't help to put the winning runs on base via free passes. No pun intended, but Holmes didn't leave any margin for error. He gave up 2 walks and a hit, that's not a good pitching line for 1 inning. I'm not even counting the hit to LF. He's not fully to blame for the loss, but he played a part in it. I rarely comment re pitching, and I don't get too high or low with wins/losses. But if there's anything that comes close to making my blood boil it's late inning relievers in close games who can't throw strikes. I'd rather have seen Henderson & Rutschman jack game-tying, game-winning HRs than what actually transpired.

It was such a flukish loss. A couple walks. A couple muffed plays by normally reliable fielders. No way to blame Gleyber. There needn’t always be a goat 🐐. It just happened, that’s all. Be happy we won the series. Be happy that we’re in the chase. Yankee fans are so spoiled we never, ever want to lose…
