You can always count on Verdugo for a grounder made for a double play. I was hoping the all star break would give him a restart but I guess not. He needs to sit awhile…

OK, game three is tomorrow. Shane Baz makes his 2nd start vs. the Yanks and his 3rd since coming off the IL after two years of elbow issues, he's 0-1 with a 5.23 ERA in the first two. Marcus Stroman hasn't been good lately, has just one quality start in his last 5 games, 1-2 with a 5.68 ERA. He's 7-4 on the season with a 3.51 ERA and will start for the Yanks, trying to re-take the lead in this series. The game is the usual slightyly later matinee on Sunday at 1:37 pm on YES.
Game preview done, I'll check my later notifications...

This team lacks the killer instinct that previous winning Yankee teams had. After last night's win, they should been ready to give it to the Rays again, instead we reverted back to the hitless wonders again. I hope that GM Cashman gets another starter and a Reliever before the tradeline ends. The really need a third baseman that can hit.

I think Mr. Bradley's elite stuff had something to do with it, but they need the guys who hit better earlier in the year to find it again: namely, Volpe and Verdugo. I think Torres' season might be lost in his head thinking about free agency, and DJ really looks like he's finished.

That's right, 55 years ago today. I was 10 years old, but of course my parents let me stay up to watch the truly great feat in American history. Maybe all that will be remembered of us hundreds of years from now, assuming to Chinese don't push it down the memory hole. I was still in side my mom and was born 2 1/2 months later. Sipping a cold brew with my buddies at Bryn Mawr Tavern...legal NY drinking age was 18 then.

That IS the character from M*A*S*H. Edward Winter was the name of the actor who played him. Sounds like Edgar Winter, but isn't. I read it as Edgar Winter and didn't remember the song! Memory brain flatuence is more frequent as the years go by...I was talking about the Yanks not trading for Cliff Lee at the All-star game meeting on Tuesday for my fantasy league and I couldn't remember the name of the infielder that Cashman refused to include when the original infielder was diagnosed with an injury that made the Marriners balk on the origiinal deal. I remembered he actually had a couple of good seasons for the Twins and Red Sox after leaving the Yanks, but I couldn't remember Eduardo Nunez' name, and had to look it up online. Imagine that; he played for the Yanks just a bit over 10 years ago and was a key part of Yankees bad history, and I couldn't remember his name. Bad, bad, bad.

And you were alive to "see" the other five moon landings. But I bet you don't remember much of them... Amazing times. If you want to relive some of that in slightly-fictional form, I highly recommend the HBO Series From the Earth to the Moon. Or you can read the book it was largely based on: A Man on the Moon by Anthony Chaikin. I highly recommend the book, too.

OK, that's going to do it for me for today. See you guys tomorrow afternoon for the 3rd game; Baz vs. Stroman. Good afternoon to all of you.
Happy anniversary to Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin, who's still here at age 94, and got assigned to be the Lunar Mudule Pilot because his doctoral thesis was about manned orbital rendezvous technique. Pretty important for the Lunar Module Pilot in docking in Earth orbit and undocking and re-docking in descending to and ascending from the Moon. And if you're of a mind, lift a glass tonight to the great Neil Armstrong, first Man to land a craft and walk on the Moon, and the great Michael Collins, the first man to orbit the Moon alone. Must have been pretty lonely during radio silence on the far side while Armstrong and Aldrin were down there.
Bye for now.

Nestor is no longer nasty. Seems to give up a lot of homers lately also and has problems with RH hitters. Said this a few weeks ago that he may be better suited for bullpen and middle relief. Even when CS comes back I still think we need another rotation guy. Problem is this team has so many holes to fill it will not be possible to plug all the holes. I just hope Cashman does not bring in any hitters who can't hit above .220.

First episode deals with the original astronaut tragedy: the fire in the Apollo 1 test that killed astronauts Gus Grissom, Ed White and Roger Chaffee.

Saw first couple innings then had to run errands. If the playoffs started tomorrow I'm not sure I would trust Rodon or Nestor. I was thinking we were ok with SP, but now I'm starting to rethink it a bit.
