Well, we wanted to see what this team would look like without Stanton. It has not been very good.

Comes instead with a slider to the inner 3rd, and he tops it foul. High slider drops into the zone above and outside middle, Wells reads it as a FB by count and location, and just stares at it for the ꓘ to end it.
Yanks have tried a bunch of guys at cleanup, and none of them are suitable for the job, Wells is just the latest, but Torres, Verdugo and Rice have also failed at it. Not sure what they can do until Stanton or Rizzo get back.

Since Soto was on third, the DP was out, but the "take the 3rd strike" was in..

Oh well, lets see if this series ends like many other 4 games series, 2-2.

Yanks lose again, 6-4, and are down 2-1 in the series with the last game tomnorrow afternoon. They drop back to 17 games over at 59-42. The Rays and Jays both gain a game, and the Rays are now just 8 games behind them now, as they try to convince their cheap management not to dump salary/players about to become expensive.
Yanks are now 9-20 in their last 29 games, and have resumed sinking like a rock in water.

Our offense is 2 players right now. Curious to see Stanton now. Hope he stays healthy.

Yeah, OMG. Well that's what happens when you have no real cleanup hitter and have to try guys there not good enough/not ready for the role. And again, good afternoon, pres. And goodbye, again. =============== Aren't you glad I didn't call you nw, today?

The series concludes tomorrow at 1:07 pm on YES. A battle of struggling starters...Zack Littell for the Rays, he's 3-6 on the season with a 4.26 ERA. 120 hits allowed in 101+ innings, but he's had four solid games (and one severe beating by the Rangers) in his last 5 starts. Carlos Rodon is the Yanks "big hope" to get a split. Rodon's been awful his last 6 starts, 0-5 with an ERA over 9.00 in 27 innings. We were all nearly gleeful when he managed to get through 4 innings against the O's with just 2 runs allowed and 7 K's, but needed 98 pitchs to do it. And the Rays are MUCH better against lefties, and Rodon has been about the worst lefty in baseball for the last 6 weeks.
OK, that's the game preview, one last check of notifications before I go...

no cigar.
HR ball bites us in the butt. gleyber's error led to a run and the usually reliable hill & weaver allowing HRs too much for our anemic offense to overcome. a couple base loaded opps early where some hard hit balls yielded nothing and too little too late. judge came close in the 9th but ultimately empty.
while i think he needs some rehab starts, stanton's return important for this lineup. provides protection for judge and lengthens the lineup and hopefully takes some pressure off the other guys. 7-15 since he's been out.

The reality is they’re 10-21 in the last 31 with not much going right. Frankly, I don’t see much reason for optimism.
