I don't think he needs a gem here, but 2 runs in 5+ innings might well be good enough. I'd sign on for that from every pitcher every day ! Well, maybe not Cole EVERY game, but yeah. Pretty much. |

Cutter inner 3rd, popped over the screen behind home, 1-2
Splitter well low, taken, 2-2
Slider hands inside, Palacios early, pulls it foul.
Long at bat to start things.
Splitter way low over home is an easy take, 3-2
Cutter in the zone low and away, but Palacios goes out to get it with power, and it's belted out to the Porch, 1-0 Rays.
It did cut, Paulie, but it cut to a crushable spot.

Sinker in the zone up and away is taken, 0-1
Sinker up in the zone near middle, taken, 0-2
Misses well high with a cutter on the inner half, 1-2
Slider misses way outside near the knees, 2-2.
Sinker right under where the 1st pitch went, Paredes goes with it, hits a fliner to Soto in right, 1 down.
Stroman fooling no one so far.

It would be a risk for the Yankees and unfair to Torres to ask him in the middle of the season to play a position he never played before. Gleyber has played in only 23 games at third base for a total of 187 minor league innings, the last time in 2018. Surprisingly, he played only 123 innings in the minor leagues at second base, spending the bulk of his time at shortstop for a total of 2762 minor league innings. |

Kay says Stroman's "given you everything you could've wanted". Not really, Mikey. But he has given all he has left and goes out there to battle with what he has, every game. Unfortunately, his stuff is greatly diminished from prime. I can't fault his smarts, competitiveness and effort. But unless he can find another adjustment, he's running out of rope, stuff-wise. That is why I didn't like the 2 year deal. Could have lived with 1 year. |

Splitter well off the plate away, waist high, Arozarena tries to pull it, and pops it toward the line in left. Verdugo moves in and over, catches, inning over.
Bottom 1, 1-0 Rays.

FB inner 3rd above the waist, Rice tries to jump it, pulls it sharply but foul off 1st, 0-1
FB in at 96 makes him jacknife a bit, 1-1
Hanging slider, inner 3rd, pulls right to Paredes, takes it to the bag, 1 down.

Soto takes a slider down and in, 1-0, making him jackknife.
Waist high FB inner 3rd, he's jammed a bit, and the flare over 3rd falls in because Arozarena positioned nowhere near it, then he bobbles, allowing Soto to get to 2nd with 1 out on the single, E-7.

Judge takes a thigh high slider on the corner away, not called, Judge gets a break, 40% strike on Gameday.
FB above middle, fouled off, 1-1
Hangs a curve inner 3rd waist high, but Judge late and under, fouls it off, 1-2
Waist high FB outer 3rd, Judge hammers it to right for a hit. Soto to 3rd with 1 down. Now someone beside the Big Two has to do something productive.
