That at bat is not a failure, but given the number of hittable pitches he fouled off, it's not really a success, either. You want your number 4 guy drving in runs. I've said this before about Wells but he fouls off a lot of pitches he should be hitting hard.

Verdugo just plain hit that ball into bad luck as we fail to score…

Another awful at bat by Torres with the bases loaded. Soto probably should have tried to score there. Too shallow, likely 7-7-2 DP, Arozarena has a good arm, supposedly.

Sinker below middle, hit hard to the right of 2nd, Torres backhands, feels he has no way to plant and throw, flips to Volpe, who relays to 1st, but way to late. Infield hit for J. Lowe leading off the 2nd.

Caballero... Throw over. Sinker outside, ball 1 Splitter way outside, ball 2 Swings over a sinker going low, outer 3rd, 2-1 Waist high cutter, outside corner, Caballero swings over it, 2-2 No chance slider way outside, Caballero has time to read it and check his swing, 3-2 Runner might be going here. Runner goes, he swings over another cutter away for the K, the throw is short but offline, and Torres thinks he tagged him, wants the Yanks to challenge, but the umps send Lowe back anyway because Caballero got in Wells way as he threw and interference was called. Cash out to argue that call.

I'm glad the umpire called that, because I've seen hitters interfere with catchers before and it goes uncalled.

Yeah, the follow through hit Wells' off arm, hindering the throw, and now the umps huddle and call Lowe out as well, on interference on Wells to prevent him getting a full throw off. If it stands, 2 outs and nobody on, and a big break for Stroman. Torres did tag him on the foot calf anyway before the hand got in. Torres was right.

Stroman drops a curve into the top of the zone in the middle, 0-1 Rortvedt gets a spliter right down the middle, but misses, fouling it off. Cutter misses just up and away, 1-2 Swings over a slider going down and in for the K, inning over.
Bottom 2, 1-0 Rays. Not exactly a 1-2-3 inning, but welcome short one for Stroman, just 11 pitches and 27 through 2. Volpe, Grisham, Cabrera for the Yanks in their half of the 2nd.

It should be time for a bunch of guys to snap out of their slumps and go on hot streaks…

And there it is... Torres goes after a 1st pitch slider at the knees, gets under it, pops it to short left, Arozarena catches and Soto must hold. And the situation finds Verdugo, who's completely lost at the plate. Sadly, Torres does not have enough plate discipline to wait for a hittable pitch... This was the place were we could have scored...

Volpe steps in... Takes a FB high in the middle, 1-0 FB misses just outside at the top, 2-0 Arrggg. Chases a FB 4-6 inches high, misses, 2-1. Bad swing on 2-1, Volpe. FB at the top of the zone in the middle, fouled off, 2-2 Breaking stuff or a change now, I think.

Nope, FB up and in, not a strike, but fairly close and he fouls it. If it was 3-1, that's a likely ball 4. Takes a curve well below the outer half, 3-2. Ball 5. One batter too late. FB above middle, hit hard to the left of 2nd into center for a leadoff single.
