Volpe takes a waist high FB outside corner for a strike.
Takes a FB well outside, 1-1
Gets a cutter outside middle, and goes with it to deep right, but just missed under and it dies on the track in the corner for DeLuca, 2 down.
That at bat makes me almost as happy as the HR earlier, because he went with the pitch outside middle to right, instead of trying to pull it, and he just missed a 2nd HR. That swing works for him very well in this park.

Verdugo takes a FB above the waist, outside corner, 0-1
FB outside at the top, by about 5 inches, 1-1
FB in the same spot an inch or two close, also a ball 2-1
Takes a thigh high FB outer 3rd for strike 2.
Gets a knee high FB in the middle of the plate, fouls it off.
Gets the same FB he got on the first 2-2, and misses it for a K. Inning over.
Top 8, 6-1 Yanks
8-9-1 for the Rays in the 8th: DeLuca, Jackson and Rosario.

DeLuca gets a first pitch change down and in, fouls it down, 0-1
Swings over a change, just below the knees, 0-2
Change dives waist high, inner 3rd, good run makes him foul it off his foot.
Tries to sneak a FB by high, waist high, outside corner and he makes a late spoil
Yanks a 96 FB about 2-3 feet outside, off Wells' mitt lunging to the backhand, 1-2
Change yanked way outside above the knees, 2-2
Four pitches since 0-2
Change in the zone, just below middle, he somehow misses under it, popped to short right, Cabrera goes back and calls, then is called off by Soto coming in, catches, 1 down.

Takes his timeout
Takes a change that nearly bounced outside, 2-2
Hangs a waist high change, but about 3 inches outside, so Jackson puts a solid swing on it, but gets it off the end of the bat, the fly to left doesn't carry much, Verdugo goes back a couple of steps, catches, 2 down.

And he throws a change near the corner away, bounced softly up the middle, Volpe goes for it behind the mound, brush bumps Cabrera going too far to his right, throws him off balance and needs too long to recover and the throw to 1st is late. Rosario reaches.

Change below the outside corner is ball 4, but Paredes changes, grounds it to Volpe, who takes a long look at 2nd, double clutches, but still has time to throw out Paredes to end the inning.

Sinker just below middle middle, Cabrera tries to jump it and misses, fouling it back.
Gets a waist high cutter outer 3rd, misses that as well.
Hey, Oswaldo, there has to be some part of the waist high zone you can make contact on...

Cutter stays outside above the waist, 2-2
Sweeper winds up thigh high, outside middle, and he pulls a sinking liner to the right of 2nd, bounces past Lowe's dive to his right for a leadoff single.

Tries to bunt again on a sinker down and in, terrible jab bunt without squaring the bat to the plate, pops it foul off the 3rd base side, 0-2
Bails on the slider way way outside, misses it badly for the K, 1 down.

1st pitch to Soto is a terrible cutter just inside middle middle, and he hits a bullet well back into the Porch in right for a 3 run HR, Yanks expand to 9-1!
