Judge takes a sinker above the knees, outer half, 0-1 Another sinker above the knees, this one inside middle, ripped to the left side, past Caballero's dive to his right for a hit.

Wells fouls off a sinker outside middle, 0-1 Gets a sweeper down the middle but foul tips it, 0-2 Fouls off a sweeper on the corner away Sweeper hangs outside, 1-2 Sweeper inside middle again, and as with his single earlier, he ties himself up, it rolls down the 3rd base line and misses hitting the bag by a couple of inches foul. Almost bought himself another lucky hit.

Chases a bad sinker way low, outside middle, rolls it over to Lowe well in the 34 hole, playing to pull, flips it to Paredes for out #3.
By the way Paulie, the Soto HR was on a hanging cutter, not a 4 seamer, 88.6 mph, and Kelly's sinker is low 90's. It hung, so it may have looked like a bad 4-seamer, but it was the cutter.
Top 9, 9-1 Yanks Cousins coming in to try to close it out vs. the Rays 3-4-5: Mead, Arozarena and B. Lowe.
Soto's 25th HR and 2nd of the game: 114.9 mph, 385 feet, 19° launch angle, a HR is 27 of 30 parks.

I would have used Holmes here just so he gets into a game.

B. Lowe... Takes a sinker waist high, inner 3rd, 0-1 Swins over a slider down and in, 0-2 Slider for the back door backs up outside and down, 1-2 Slider down and in, no chase, 2-2 Slider backs up outside again, 3-2 Sinker on the outside corner spoiled Slider in a bad spot, just below middle, but Lowe fouls it off. Sinker up in the zone, near middle, fouled Back door slider hit hard back up the middle, Cousins loses hit mitt trying to stop it, but Volpe gloves it back of 2nd, runs to the bag, throws to 1st in time for the nice 6-6-3 double play that ends things for today.
Yanks hit five home runs and win going away, 9-1, to split the series with the Ray, get back to 18 games over .500, and get their 60th win of the season, finally. Took them almost six weeks to get from 50 wins to 60. They better not do that again.
If anyone cares, the 3 parks Soto's 2nd HR would not have been a HR in are Fenway Park, Oracle Park, and Coors Field, but with Coors statcast simulation doesn't account for the extra 5-10% carry, although that was a line drive and not a fly ball.

pretty much a perfect game. great pitching and plenty of offense. great way to end the series. so many stars. just throw darts at the board. gonna go w rodon for potg. for me it starts w pitching and doesn't get much better than 2-hit 7 innings w 10 Ks. hopefully this gets him untracked.
honorables include wells & volpe who get us on the board w back-to-back and belly-to-bellies. ocab a big 2-run hit to give rodon some breathing room. hard to ignore soto w 2 HR and 4 RBI but those came after the horse was out of the barn. bring on the mets ...

The stars of the game: HM to Volpe for 3-4 good at bats including his first HR in a long long time, and almost another. Cabrera for the 2-run single off of Lowe's mitt that gave the Yanks some breathing room in the 4th, and another hit in front of Soto's HR in the 8th.
3rd star: Wells, for a good job receiving and calling, the solo HR in the 2nd that gave the Yanks the early lead, and two more hits, raising his BAVG to .223. He's 13-46 with 5 HR, 11 Runs and 10 RBI in his last 13 starts with 9 BB and 10 K, and you can do a lot worse for your starting catcher. 2nd star: Seems odd to give a guy who had 3 hits, hit two HRs and knocked in 4 the second star, but his HRs, while welcome, came after the Yanks were already up 4 and up 5, so Juan Soto has to settle for the silver medal today. 1st star: A surprising, almost shocking great game by Rodon, 10 K's and just 2 hits allowed in 7 innings, finally breaking his losing streak, getting his first win in 7 starts. The sole error wasn't really a bad pitch, a FB about 3 inches outside near the top that Siri got to and lobbed into the Porch for the Rays only run. Best news of all: the return of the missing Killer Back Leg Sliderâ„¢, which he used to complete 4 or 5 K's down and in to righties.
