I would have used Holmes here just so he gets into a game. You're right, but maybe Boone wanted to get home in time for dinner.
The only reason I can think of is if Holmes had one of his innings where he threw a lot of pitches, Boone couldn't have used him Tuesday vs the Mets.

Looks like I missed HR derby! Thanks for the assist, anthonyd46 ! Even DJ went yard! Let's continue this offensive momentum! And good job Rodon for a change! Maybe it was the Rays' weak lineup, but they've killed lefties this year, and Rodon really looked like the Rodon of 2021-2022 today. He was...dare I say it? (Dare, dare!!)...great today. Rodon reminds me a lot of Jack McDowell's tenure with the Yankees. He'd pitch a great game every once in a while just to make you think he's the person we bought. I don't think his problem is mechanics or anything else; it's what sits above his neck.

An athlete can have passion, but if he can’t control it in clutch situations he hurts himself more than anyone else…

All true, but what will the next outing look like?? That is the problem for Rodon, Nestor and Stroman... Agreed; although unlike the other two, Rodon has the elite velocity and sharp break on the slider and curve to make it stick if he can command the zone, and even more so, if he can command himself when things start to go south.

He finsihed 3rd in innings pitched and won 15 games. From the last week of July to the middle of September had a stretch of 10 strong starts where with 6 or 7 complete games. His bad finish to that year left most of us ticked at him...but the regular season wasn't bad.
