Slider drops into the upper part of the zone, inside middle, pulled foul
FB waist high, outer 3rd, Volpe misses it, fouling it off
FB near the top of the zone, Volpe tries to jerk it out, swings under it for the K
OK, that's a 12 pitch battle, but Volpe got 4 distinct breaks, and didn't take advantage. 1 down.

Good splitter dives knee high, middle, and Verdugo bounces it down the 1st base line, caught in foul ground by Parades, but the ump says it bounced over the bag and is fair, becomes a swinging bunt, takes it to the bag, runners move up to 2nd and 3rd. Verdugo was sure it was foul, never left home, 2 down.

A splitter going low in the middle, pulled to the 34 hole, goes off the mitt of a diving Lowe into right for a hit, both runners score and the Yanks lead 4-0!!!
Two somewhat lucky hits for the Yanks this inning, but I take it and run to the...uhhh...run bank to deposit.

Grisham fouls off a waist high FB on the outer 3rd, 0-1
Takes a FB in the zone just below and outside the 1st one, 1-1
Fouls off a FB at the top of the zone
Takes a sinker well inside 1-2
Splitter just outside waist high, fouled off
Gets a FB inside middle and fouls that one, Cabrera was running, has to go back
Takes a sweeper way down and in, 2-2
2nd long at bat this inning for Littell
Grisham thinks its a low FB in the middle, but it's a splitter diving well low out of the zone, tries to go down to a knee, but misses by plenty for the K to end the inning.
Yanks add 2, lead 4-0, going to top 5.
29 pitches for Littell in the 4th, and 70 through 4.
B. Lowe, Siri and Caballero for the Rays in the 5th.

FB at 94 barely misses outside, called a strike anyway, 0% on Gameday but just by an inch, Rodon got a break there, but a tiny one, 1-2
Slider going way low near the corner away, chased and missed for the K, 1 down.

Takes a curve low, inside middle, 2-0
Takes a FB below the top of the zone, inside middle, 2-1
He won't take that one again.
FB below the top, about 2-3 inches outside, but Siri goes with it to right, lands 10 rows back in the Porch, solo HR makes it 4-1 Yanks.
Not even that bad a pitch, but Siri chases a lot and caught up to that one.

Change way outside, he chases and gets a piece.
Long at bat for Rodon here.
Back leg slider gets a chase for the K, 2 down. The back leg slider to righties is so important for him.

DeLuca takes a curve waist high, outside corner, 0-1
FB at the extreme top outside corner, fouled, 0-2
Good spoil on a slider down and in that didn't quite get back leg, but was well out of the zone.
THAT slide did get to the back leg, and he DID chase it, and it's a K, inning over.
No shutdown inning this time for Rodon, but not a bad one, 20 pitches and 2 K's, 73 through 5 and for the first time in 7 starts, he's through 5 innings AND eligible for a W.
Bottom 5, 4-1 Yanks.
9-1-2 for the Yanks in the 5th: LeMahieu, Rice and Soto.

rodon Ks deluca to end the 5th. a mistake to siri but 8Ks after 5 innings. best start in a while.
