I wanted to throw up when I saw this lineup, but you have to go with what you have. Narvaez gets his first start.

Rice could probably use a day off, looking at lineup would guess Mutts are starting a lefty.

For what it is worth, I will be at the game on Wednesday. Doesn't sound like much, but I live in Chicago and am visiting my daughter who lives in Montclair, NJ. I have never been to the new stadium and she surprised me with tickets!!! Hopefully, they will win today and go for a sweep tomorrow.

I can understand giving Wells a day. He's never caught every day for such a long span in his professional life. However, Rice is a 20 something year old first baseman. He doesn't need a rest after just having a week off. Let him hit against leftys, especially when your other option is complete dog doo.

The thread is young and already has references from vomit to dog excrement. This looks like it’s going to be an interesting game her on The Bronx Bombers forum… Now, since you referenced Mr. Davis with “dog doo” he’s sure to run in to a fast ball at some point…😂

The Stadium should be loud and fun. I've been to a few Yankees-Mets games in my life, including the 4th game of the 2000 World Series, the one in which Jeter responded to the Mets' only win of the series with a leaoff HR off of Bobby Jones (the good one, not the bad one and not the NBA player). Also the game where Neagle was pulled after struggling for 4 2/3 innings, so Torres could bring in David Cone for his final hurrah as a Yankee, getting Mike Piazza to pop out to end the 5th. The Yanks had a 3-0 lead after 2 1/2, the Mets got 2 back in the 3rd, but Neagle and pen shut them out the last 6 innings, with Mariano slamming the door with 2 innings of 1 hit, no-run ball, closing things out by getting Matt Franco looking. The Yanks would win the Series and their 3rd straight title the next day, 4-2.

The Mets come into this short 2-game series at the Stadium having been cooled off slightly by a split in the 4-game series in Miami against the awful Marlins. They've now lost 3 of 5 after winning 21 of 29, and sit in 3rd in the NL East at 51-48. They're 3 games back of the 2nd place Braves and 11 1/2 games behind the first place Phillies, but currently hold the 3rd Wild Card in the NL by 1/2 game over the Pirates. The Yanks will be looking for revenge for the embarrasing 2-game sweep the Mets laid on them at Citifield, outscoring the Yanks 21-9, and knocking out the same two starters, Cole and Gil, before they could get through 5 innings. They go in the opposite order this time; Gil tonight and Cole tomorrow night, and both pitchers have seemingly regained their previous excellent form in their last two starts.

In the opener, the Mets send out veteran lefty Jose Quintana. Quintana was originally signed by the Mets as a 17-year old Latin American free agent in 2006. He pitched just 3 games for them in the Venezuela Summer League that year...and that was it. He was suspended for 2007 for violations of the Minor League Drug Policy, and the Mets released him that July. He signed with the Yankees organization next March, and spent 2008 and 2009 pitching for them in the Dominican Summer League, pitching very well there as a 19- and 20-year-old (he was older than the average hitter he faced). In 2010, the Yanks brought him stateside and he pitched well as a 21-year old in rookie ball, but not well in very limited innings in low-A. In what was probably a 40-man roster issue, the Yanks released him after the season, but re-signed him as a free agent five weeks later. At age 22, he pitched well in a split starter/relief role at high-A Tampa, but again, facing 40-man roster issues, the Yanks granted him free agency again, and this time, he signed with the White Sox, who had the roster space and were willing to give him a major league contract.
The White Sox assigned him to AA, where he pitched 6 solid starts, then called him up for a fill-in start, and he had a good one. The Sox sent him back to AA for 3 more starts, then recalled him for good in late May. He pitched reasonably well the rest of the season, and wound up 6-6 in the majors with a 3.76 ERA. Over the next 4 seasons, he was one of the best lefties in the AL, going 40-40 with an ERA of 3.35, pitching well against the Yanks in 3 starts against them in those 4 years. In 2017, he was about to become expensive because he was going to eligible for arbitration after that season, so after a poor first half, the White Sox made what should have been a team-building trade for them, sending Quintana to the Cubs, who were trying to fill out a rotation for they hoped would be a World Series title repeating run, and sending back elite outfield prospect Eloy Jimenez and extremely hard throwing pitching prospect Dylan Cease. Quintana had a much better 2nd half with the Cubs. He pitched a good game in the NLDS against the Nats, but the Dodgers knocked him out early in game 5 of the NLCS to wrap up the pennant. Over the next two years, Quinatna won more games, but pitched worse for the Cubs, with an ERA in the 4.30s. He missed most of the COVID season in 2020 recovering from surgery to repair a lacerated nerve in his pitching thumb, returning in August to pitch 4 games in relief down the stretch. At age 30, and having not pitched particularly well for them, the Cubs let Quintana leave via free agency.
The Angels signed him for 2021, and pitched very poorly. The Angels put him on the IL at the end of May with shoulder inflammation, and when he came back 3 weeks later, they moved him into long relief for the rest of his time with the team. He didn't do much better in that role, so the Angels waived him toward the end of August, and the Giants picked him up off waivers. After 5 so-so relief appearances the Giants let him go at the end of the season and he signed with the Pirates. In 2022, Quintana had a sold comeback with Pittsburgh, going 3-5 in 20 starts with an ERA of 3.50, and the Pirates seeking to capitalize on it, traded him to the Cards at the deadline with reliever Chris Stratton for Johan Oviedo and a minor league infielder. Oviedo went on to pitch decently as a back of the rotation starter in 2022 and 2023 before tearing his ACL and getting Tommy John surgery to repair it. Meanwhile, Quintana was brilliant for the Cards down the stretch, going 3-2 in 12 starts with an ERA just over 2.00. He threw a very good 5+ innings against the Phils in game 1 of the Wild Card Series that year, but Ryan Helsey had a meltdown in the 9th, and the Phils won the game and wrapped up the series the next day. The Cards let him go free agent, and he signed with the Mets for 2023, getting a big raise on a 2-year deal (from $2 million in 2022 to $13 million a year for 2023-4).
