Exciting, if somewhat frustrating (but we've seen it enough this season, so we should be used to it by now) win for the Yanks tonight. A throwback to the classic Yanks-Sox battles from the past!

Well, where to even begin with this one...
Yanks get get two leads, blow them, tie it up 3 times after that, blow 2 of those, tie it up in the 9th on a brutal misplay of what should've been the final out, a fly to deep left by Grisham, and score the ghost runner on a good at bat for a sac fly by Wells, with Torres following with an enormous two run double for crucial insurance runs, and Holmes bent but did not crack, pitcing two shutout innings, both earning the W and saving his own win in the 10th.
Yanks break the 3-game losing streak, get back to 16 games over .500 at 61-45, and win for just the 11th time in 34 games. They gain a game on both the O's and the Sox, but not the Rays and Jays, and find themselves amazingly enough just 1 game out of 1st, 4 1/2 up on the Sox again, 8 up on the Rays and 12 up on the Jays.
Boy, naming the 3 stars isn't going to be easy tonight, but one thing's for sure: they ain't any of the pitchers except the last one.

I was only scoreboard watching and it was still nerve wracking. Boy oh boy did we need the Yanks to come out on top this time!
NOBODY needs another demoralizing loss… especially to the Red Sox!

That is the kind of game that could bring MLB the kind of ratings football gets on a Saturday night. Lots of action...even if some of it was bad.

a game based on the the starting pitching matchup we were't supposed to win. just a heart stopping roller coaster of a game. potg - so many choices. have to go w judge 4-4. on base all 6 times. in the middle of everything. as judge said, almost everyone contributed. big hits up & down the lineup. wells w the sac fly to give us the lead. gleyber struggling gets a double to drive in 2 giving holmes some breathing room. holmes for actually locking down a 2 inning win & save. ocab w an early HR and making a number of tough plays at 3B. grisham w a double to tie things in the 9th. soto HR to start it off. verdugo 3 hits. an amazing and much needed win. with reinforcements on the way could this be where the season turns around.

It might be accurate to say each team played well enough to lose...Happy they lost it this time. true pat but we were last man standing. i'm kinda out of breath after that one. |
