O's appeared to be revitalized by all the help management brought in, two starters, a reliever or two. And we will continue to watch our starters struggle to go past 5 innings most games then hand it over to a shaky (maybe slightly upgraded with Leiter) bullpen and a lousy closer. Huzzah! I wonder if there's any chance that Cortes becomes the Yankees 2nd lefty out of the bullpen when Schmidt comes off the IL? |

Verdugo swings over a sinker down and in, 0-1
Sinker just below and inside middle, Verdugo inside outs a liner to left for a hit, one-hops to Hays, so Volpe stops at 2nd.
And that does it for Sanchez.
Phils will bring in a righty for LeMahieu...Ruiz, who came to relieve Strahm in the 8th after the 3 run HR to Chisholm last night, back on the mound.

LeMahieu takes a sinker inside, ball 1
Sinker at 95 dives to the inside corner, DJ late and under, fouls it off, 1-1
Volpe dancing off 2nd, Ruiz maybe distracted, misses well outside with a curve, 2-1
Curve dives low in the middle, DJ tries to check, too late, 1st base ump says swing, confirmed by the side view, 2-2
FB waist high outer 3rd at 95, lined to right center, gets up the gap to the wall, 2 runs score on the 2 run double, 6 RBI today, matching his total since 2021!!
OK, maybe not, but it's a huge two run double, 6-3 Yanks!!!

Some consider the Phillies to be the best team in MLB. Yankees could send a nice message to the rest of MLB if they can sweep the Phillies in the Phillies home ballpark.

Narvaez takes a curve just low/away, 1-0
Takes a FB near middle, 1-1
Curve low in the zone fouled off, 1-2
Curve on the corner away, thigh high, hit back up the middle, deflects off Ruiz but close enough to Wilson that he can play it and throw out Nrvaez to end the inning.
Yanks tack on 2 huge runs, as the Ghost of DJ Past gets up and starts running around the park. Yanks lead 6-3, going bottom 6.
3-4-5 with the Phillies: Harper, Bohm and Castellanos in their half of the 6th inning.

Harper takes a FB outside, 1-0
Takes a slider low/away, 2-0
Takes a FB at the knees inside middle, 2-1
Takes his timeout.
And boy oh boy are the Yankees lucky Harper is so off. Hangs the slider just below and inside middle, and Harper just misses under, deep drive to right keeps carrying, but Soto gets to it a step or two from the wall, catches, 1 down.
And that's it for Nestor, 99 pitches, and he leaves the game eligible for the W if the bullpen cooperates.

Luke Weaver, the only key reliever the Yanks let get the night off yesterday in to pitch. Yanks HOPE he can make it through the 7th, but he hasn't been that sharp lately.
