huge sweep against the "best" team in baseball to go 20 up. 5 game winning streak. o's leading so we remain 1/2 game back and actually are now for the phillies in wins. think the phillies are now 4-11 in last 15. teams slump ...

Schedule gets easier ahead with the Jays, Angels, Rangers, at Chisox, and at Tigers ahead before what should be a big 3 game series against Cleveland in the Bronx beginning August 20.

2 hits for Stanton is big. I don't like the guy but him staying out of any slumps and continuing to hit is very important.

MAAArlins beat the Rays and invincible Taj Bradley 6-2, hanging 4 runs on him in 5 innings, including a 2 run HR for Jake Burger, who's been hot since I traded him off my fantasy team (natch). O's about to complete their own sweep at home Edit: I forgot they lost the 2nd game of Monday's doubleheader, so 3 out of 4, not a sweep against the Jays, leading 10-4 in the 9th. Sox and Mariners will get under way in Fenway 40 minutes from now.
Yanks will remain 1/2 game behind the O's, temporarily moved to 7 ahead of Boston, push the Rays a game further back, now 9 behind, and will gain another game on the Jays to go 14 1/2 ahead of them.

DJ the entire offense with 2 big hits. 6 rbi. definitely potg. and people were questioning why boone played him. maybe he's woke up.
gonna go w holmes for an honorable for nailing it down in the 9th. maybe stanton needs a mention for getting 2 hits. since i didn't see much of the game, won't go further than that.

Yep, Phils have lost 11 of 15. Lucky for them the Braves are in a 6-10 slump of their own. Similar to what the Yanks and O's were going through until this week. The Mets have stayed hot (13-5) and are right on the Braves heels, just 1/2 game behind them going into today.

O's win 10-4, so Yanks still 1/2 game out of 1st.

O's win 10-4, so Yanks still 1/2 game out of 1st. I think they did a nice job upgrading their roster. Too bad we scuffled for 2 months and blew an opportunity to take advantage of their swoon.

Amazing, a sweep that no one would have predicted three days ago.
The bullpen needs this day off, so they should enjoy it.

Leiter is afflicted with Holmesitis - base runners galore. The guy has only been here for 24 hours and has already pitched in two games. Maybe his head will stop spinning by Friday.

Stars of the game: Not many honorable mentions today. Stanton for 2 hits and a run. Verdugo for 2 hits, a run and a fine play in the corner on Hays deep fly in the 8th that was almost a 3 run HR, and could easily have been a 2 run double to take the lead for the Phils. Maybe Leiter for righting his ship after struggling with command, and throwing a great change low in the zone to Marsh on 3-2 for the K that left them loaded. He was all over the place that inning, but made the big pitch when it counted most.
3rd star: Nestor Cortes. It wasn't a dominant start. It wasn't even a "quality start". He only went 5 1/3 innings. He gave two runs back in the 4th, and a solo shot to a dubious hitter in Wilson. But he finally squelched his road demons for one game, and got his first road win of the season in 12 starts. 2nd star: Clay Holmes...I laid off the "relaxation moment" on purpose trying to change karma, and it "worked". (I don't really believe that, but fans are superstitious, so I'll be laying that aside for a while, let's see what happens...). After another classic Holmes blown save last night on squibs, bleeders and an unclutch wild pitch to allow the tying run to score, he gave up a leadoff single in the 9th after getting ahead of Schwarber, 0-1, gave up another hard hit ball, a deep fly to the track in left by Hays, and took advantage of a Bryce Harper in a deep slump, rolling over a slider in the middle for a DP grounder and a game-ending 4-6-3 double play, earning his 1st save in 3 weeks. 1st star: D.J. LeMahieu stepped into Mr. Peabody's Wayback Machine and had himself a career day in RBI; grand slam on a hanging slider for his 1st HR of the season on the road, against a pitcher who doesn't give up homers giving up his first HR of the season at home, then going with a FB away in the against hard throwing righty Ruiz with 2 on and 2 outs in the 6th for the rest of the Yankees runs today, a classic DJ Double up the right center gap. If he never has a day close to this again, at least he got this one, and it won the game for the Yanks. Take a bow, David John. Let's all hope it's not a curtain call on a final performance.
