Hello, I am yankeesfansince2003 and I am new to this forum.
What do you think? Is the 2000 championship the most underrated championship among Yankees fans?
Because I think it is. Even though I wasn’t a Yankees fan yet in the year 2000…2000 was the peak of the Late-90’s three-peat and the 90’s dynasty in general in terms of number of rings…yet I rarely ever see Yankees fans call the 2000 title their favorite Yankees championship (it’s usually either 2009, 1996 or 1998).
The 2000 Yankees team wasn’t the best Yankees team season record wise and most of the players may have been getting older by that point…but they came through when they really needed to and experiencing the Yankees win three World Series championships in a row had to been have fun and a real treat.

Welcome to the board yanksfan2003! The 2000 championship is definitely underrated. It was an aging team that went through a bad September. But they were able to turn it around in the playoffs. And the Subway Series had a novelty to it that was really fun! I remember I was a junior in high school and had a friendly rivalry with a diehard Mets fan so it was cool to experience that win and rub it in his face 😆. 1999 was probably also underrated no one talks about that one. We should have won in 2001 😡

We should have won in 2001 😡 Hello and thanks for the kind welcome. Yeah, I forgot to add that it was a Subway Series and that had to also have been really fun to experience too. 1999 is definitely underrated as well as that team had an incredible post-season run and beating the Atlanta Braves twice in the World Series…let alone sweeping them in four games was no easy feat. And I agree we should have won in 2001. And 2017. And winning it all in the year I became a fan would’ve been nice (03), but atlas the Marlins were a better team that year and we were all beat up from beating the Sox in that year’s ALCS so whatcha you gonna do. I feel any year from 2002-2007…we could’ve went all the way had the front office made much better decisions back then and had any of those teams had the same heart and soul that the dynasty teams had…but at least we rebounded from the terrible decisions and all the pain and tough postseason losses and 2008 which lead us up to 2009 (which was great for me and the only Yankees championship I’ve ever truly been able to celebrate and enjoy). As for this year’s team, I still have some mixed feelings and we could be better, but I definitely think this year’s team is an improvement over last year’s team and we’ll see where things go from here (baseball is an incredibly long season), but who knows.

In todays playoff environment I believe all championships to be over rated. So stupid to play 162 games with the reward being to enter a bracket of elimination.
But welcome aboard. Let’s get one this year, just for the heck of it…

hard to say a championship is "underrated". they're all special for different reasons. when they won 4 and 5 in a row in 1936-39 and 1949-1953 - perhaps fans took those for granted since they were expected - almost like a birthright.
in my cognizant baseball fan life, in 1960 remember the crushing disappointment of the mazeroski walk-off, then the elation in '61 when i experienced my first one that topped off magical seasons by M & M. both both M & M came back to earth in '62 and that WS was a hard fought back & off affair against the giants.
1977, the first after a 14 yr drought was special capped off by reggie's 3 HRs in game 6. 1978 perhaps the most remarkable. trailed by 14 games late july. billy pulls reggie from the field on national tv (and people complain about the gleyber thing) and they have to be pulled apart in the dugout. billy gets fired and lemon restores order capped by bucky's big HR in the playoff game against the red sox. was at game 3 of the WS when we were down 2-0 to the dodgers and then nettles put on one of the most remarkable fielding displays ever in game 3 to help bring us back into it.
1996 first after a 17 yr drought. down & out 2-0 heading into atlanta to be bailed out by great pitching of cone & pettite and the leyritz HR and girardi triple. 1998 perhaps the greatest team of all-time. 1999 was kind of business as usual - maybe the "underrated".
as for 2000, special for a lot of reasons - most notably the subway series against the mets. an 87 win season and a terrible september. 2009 when we more or less bought a championship after another extended drought.
after trip down memory lane, can say they're all special for different reasons. never take one for granted and don't think 2000 was underrated at all.

Three wildcards is too much. Too many buyers, not enough sellers at the deadline. And really dilutes the 162 game regular season like inger said.

Yankees beating Mets should automatically add to it's place in history.

I remember that being a very frustrating season, but they pulled it together when it mattered.

I remember that being a very frustrating season, but they pulled it together when it mattered. They got off to a good start in 2000 and had a big league lead in the East, but September was brutal as they limped to the finish line. But the certainly caught their second wind in October and the playoffs.
