Change misses just high, near middle, 3-2
Terrible change yanked way inside and bounced, great backhand stab by Wells to save a wild pitch, ball 4.
1st and 2nd, 1 out for Varsho after the walk to Horwitz.
Blake out to talk things over with Kahnle and the infield.
Berroa pinch runs for Horwitz, he's the go-ahead run at 1st.

Maybe boone thinking the 8th might be the last inning because of rain, too. But Holmes is warming, either way.

Pickoff play at 2nd, but Loperfido gets back.
Varsho takes a change almost down the middle, 0-1
Change maaayyybeee got the inside corner, called strike 2. 10% on Gameday.
Change dives low/away, Varsho lunges across the plate and barely fouls it down.
Gets under the change misses high on the outside corner, 1-2.
Rushes and flies open a bit trying to keep the FB away from Varsho, misses 6-8 inches outside, 2-2
Change thigh high, outside corner, spoiled.
Girardi also using his engineer's mind to access a lot of table data and now, spray charts of hitters.
Change low in the middle, fouled. Not sure what Kahnle can throw to get Varsho. Walk brings in Holmes with bases loaded and 1 out.

Bases loaded, 1 down for Kirk, a great contact hitter against Holmes a farily low strikeout closer. Not a great matchup here, with the go-ahead run at 2nd. Kirk 1-5 vs. Holmes with a 2 run HR.

Kahnle just not sharp today, but that fly ball error started all of this. Holmes has his work cut out for him.

Sinker waist high inside middle, and Kirk just gets under it, uses the whole park in left center, Judge catches on the track, gets it right back in, Loperfido scores to tie it, but De Los Santos stays at 2nd.

Slider backs up and away, 0-1 on Barger
Slider thigh high, outer half, taken, 1-1
Rain in about 8-10 mintues on Accuweather.
Slider on the outer 3rd, taken, 1-2
Slider in a bad spot, waist high, outside middle, fouled. Got away with a bad slider there.
Rushes, flies open, gets way under a sllider missing a foot or more outside, 2-2
Again flies open but it works in his favor, the slider is up and away, accientally finds the backdoor, called strike 3. Burger stamps his feet about the call, but it was valid, 80% or so on Gameday.
Holmes escapes with the score tied after several poor pitches.
Bottom 8, 3-3
Game might be halted here with bad t'storm moving in.
8-9-1 for the Yanks, Grisham, DJ and Torres, if an when they play the bottom of the 8th.

Good move, getting the tarp out before the rain actually hits. I thought they might do that. But the Yanks will have burned both Kahnle and Holmes to make it through the 8th, so when it resumes, the game will be in the hands of De Los Santos, Tonkin and Hill. |
