Yanks win 4-3, taking the series and the season's series for the Yanks. Third straight series win for the Yanks, they've won 7 of 8 after losing 23 of 33. Yanks get back to 21 over .500 for the 1st time in just over a month at 67-46. Yanks keep pace with the O's, Sox and Rays, still in a flat foot tie for 1st with Baltimore, still 6 1/2 games up on Boston, 9 up on Tampa, and now 15 1/2 up on Toronto.

great game. cole pitched well going 5 2/3. still doesn't seem to be back to CY cole.
potg is tough. goin w DJ for 2 rbi - one that tied the game and one that won it. maybe soto deserves co-rotd. his HR did give us the lead. he had 2 hits and was on base 4 of 5 times. have to give the beaten down grisham some props. his grounder produced the 1st run and his bunt in the 10th was huge. unfortunately his communication error w judge cost us a run. like soto, judge was on 4 of 5 times but that's because they're giving him the bonds treatment.
in addition to cole with a solid start, on the pitching side, weaver and leiter deserve some props.
maybe not as good as the first 70 games but this team seems to have regained it's footing.

Three starts of the game: HM to Grisham for his RBI grounder in the 6th, and excellent sac bunt moving Volpe to 3rd with the winning run in the 10th. Might've been top 3, but shied away from Judge (who came blame him) costing a 2 base error that came around to score the tying run in the 8th. Cole, for coming back from a bad start against the Mets, having to skip a start with some sort of stomach bug, and his own command problems in the first 2-3 innings. He got the out he needed in the 2nd with the game threatening to get away from him again, getting Loperfido to pop out to Judge in left with 2nd and 3rd and 2 outs. Then he righted the ship, made it through 91 pitches and 5 2/3 innings with just the two runs allowed. He didn't get the win, but it was welcome to see him not get slapped around again.
3rd star of the game: Soto again: 2 BB, 2 hits, one a go-ahead HR in the 7th that might have been the game-winner if not for Grisham's boo-boo. 2nd star: Mark Leiter, who had his best stuff since he joined the Yanks, got a lot of funny swings on his diving 2-plane splitter, and got 3 K's in 1 1/3, pitching out of the jam in the 9th, and even though he hit a batter in the 10th, he kept the ghost-runner from scoring, earning himself a win when... 1st star: the struggling D.J. Lemahieu, in his first start since his monster career-best 6-RBI day in the 3rd game in Philly, got himself a game-tying sac fly in the 2-run 6th, then delivered a walkoff hard single up the middle against a drawn-in 5-man infield to send all the Yaankees and their fans home happy. Take another bow, David John!.

why not just walk DJ and try for a double play? Probably thought if they get DJ, then Torres hits with 2 down, and they get away without having to maybe face Soto with 2 on the winning run at 3rd, (duhhhh by me, 2nd man on doesn't matter when 1 run wins it on the spot). If You don't get the DP from Torres, you get Soto with 2 down, and no lefty to go to.

great way to go into the off day on this long homestand.
pretty amazing that when this slump started on june 13 w the walk-off loss to KC, we were 2 1/2 up on the O's. after going 18-25, we've lost only those 2 1/2 games in the standings to be tied for 1st.

This might sound petty, but I enjoy seeing Schneider leave town with a big L. Something about that guy rubs me the wrong way.

The Extra Innings cut off the game as soon as Volpe scored so I missed this, lol.

Yanks get another days off Monday, then the Angels make travel cross-country to make their one trip to the Stadium for a 3-game set starting Tuesday.
Game 1 is Tuesday at 7:07 pm on YES: Inexperienced righty Davis Daniel makes his 2nd start for the Angels since being recalled from AAA and his 5th this season. He's 1-2 with a 4.91 ERA, having pitched two excellent, and two terrible games. HIs last one was a good 5-inning start against the Rockies for a no-decision. Luis Gil (12-6, 3.33 ERA) goes for the Yanks; he's made 4 solid-to-excellent starts since he started throwing his reworked slider a lot more, including a win giving up 3 ER in 5 1/3 against the Phils last time, walking 3 and striking out 8.
Game 2 is the Prime Delayed Video Game (sigh). Former uberprospect Carson Fullmer has been resurrected from a dead pitching career and starts for Anaheim. He was in long relief, but the Angles stretched him out, and he's made 4 solid starts, going deeper into games and he rolls along. He's 0-2 on the season with a 3.69 ERA, but in the four starts, he's gotten four no-decisions, and has pitched 4 decent games, ERA 3.43, allowing just 14 hits in 21 innings. Nestor Cortes will try to build on his OK start last time which got him his first road win of the season in Philadelpha. He's now 5-9 on the season with a 4.16 ERA.
Game 3 is back on YES at 7:07. Angels' ace Tyler Anderson, a lefty version of Stroman but actually effective most of this year, starts for the Anaheim. He K's few, walks a lot, but has allowed hits at a far lower rate than Stroman. Anderson is 8-10 on the season with a 3.05 ERA. It's his turn, so the Yanks have to start the aforementioned Stroman. His season has been sliding gradually downhill since a good start. Stroman is now 7-6 on the year with a 4.10 ERA, hasn't won in 6 starts, and is 0-3 with a 7.56 ERA in the 6, giving up 39 hits in just 25 innnigs. He's neither pitching well nor giving the Yanks length, burning the pen in mutliple games, especially his last start against the Jays in which he was knocked out in the 3rd inning.
Series preview done, I go to check notifications.
