Holmes comes in to try to nail it down, and he'll face the top of the Angels' order: Schanuel, Neto and O'Hoppe.

Slider misses low/away by a couple of inches, 1-2
Sinker above and outside of middle, pulled hard toward the 34 hole, fielded by Cabrera with a fine dive to his left, gets up, wheels and throws out O'Hoppe to end the game.
Yanks win the opener, 5-2, their 3rd in a row and 8th in their last 9 games, they get back to 22 over .500 at 68-46 for the first time since late Jone.

Holmes with a 13-pitch 1-2-3 in the 9th. Almost certainly not available in game 2, Yanks will have to try to close with Tonkin and Kahnle, if it comes to that, but Holmes should be available tomorrow, if needed.

just got in from the the black hole that i call a garden to see a very solid 9th from holmes. as the yankees go one up on the O's. 8-1 over the last 9.
