Soto takes a FB on the corner inside, 0-1 Takes a FB down and in, 1-1 Gets a FB almost down the middle, inside outs a fliner toward the corner in left, but Pillar gets the jump and route, makes a potentially difficult play look easy going toward the corner in left. Game over.
Yanks get hammered out of this one early, never challenged at all after the 5th. Angels take a one-sided win, 8-2, to split the double-header.
Yanks mini win streak stopped at 3, they lose their 2nd in the last 10 games, and fall back into a tie for 1st at 68-47. Both the Yanks and the O's pass the Guardians for the best record in the AL and if the Phils lose their game, the best record in baseball. If the Phils win, they're in the penthouse in MLB.

Cards beat the Rays 5-2, so the Yanks gain 1/2 game on Tampa. Sox down 8-4 in the 8th to the Royals, and if that score holds, the Yanks gain a 1/2 game on them as well. In that case, the Yanks and O's are once again tied for 1st, 6 games ahead of Boston, 10 ahead of Tampa, and 15 1/2 up on Toronto.

warren put us in a deep hole that offense could never dig out of. showed some flashes but overall his command was inconsistent to say the least. had some chances but again couldn't get the big hit with men on base. unproductive day for both soto 1-9 and chisholm 1-8 w 6 Ks. looks like the fairy dust has worn off him. bullpen did a solid job shutting it down. think kahnle was the only one not used today so we'll what boone has tomorrow. whoever starts needs to provide some length.

The rubber game is tomoorrow night, and although Marcus Stroman was supposed to pitch it, his start gets pushed back.
Yanks face a tough assignment tomorrow, as the Angels throw their current ace, Tyler Anderon. Anderson is 8-10 on the season, but has an ERA of 3.05, 8th in the AL, just ahead of Luis Gil now. He's also 3rd in the AL in bWAR for pitchers at 4.5, although he's 2nd in the AL in BB (behind only Gil, this time) and 7th in the AL in most BB per 9 innings. The Yanks counter with Nestor Cortes, who, in his last start against the Phillies, finally won his first road game of the season. Nestor is 5-9 with an ERA of 4.16, but has an ERA over 5.00 in his last 11 starts.
OK, tomorrow's preview done, I'll check notifications.

If Gleyber Torres had driven the ball about 5 feet futher in the 2n inning last night many of us might be feeling better today. After Adell came down with it it just felt like the Yankees were done for the night. Maybe it was the weather, the small crowd or "playing down" to the competition. I'll even blame it on Prime, but the game last night lacked felt lime a preseason affair.

Angels' relievers and not the best ones, retired the last 10 Yankees.

I went for a walk after Warren gave up the slam and because the weather was so nice in Chicago, I stayed outside on my backyard patio and pretty much missed the rest of the game. The whole night just didn't have that Yankee game feel to it.
