I'm genuinely curious how De Los Santos was viewed as an upgrade. Looks like just another gas can. The Yankees have relievers in the minor leagues that would be better than De Los Santos but Cashman won't use them. From the little I've seen of De Los Santos i'd say so. If he's a reclamation project, what the hell is he doing up here in the middle of a playoff/division race. I'd say Marinaccio could at least get another look. He got knocked around a bit in June, but was very effective before that this season and in 2022/23. I guess we didn't give up much for him and it was a roll of the dice, but more really should have been done if this is an all in year. Pitching was a clear Achilles heel and will be this team's undoing unless a bunch of these guys figure it out.

was 2-1 when i checked at the club. looks like they hit nestor hard in the 5th but de los santos put it out of reach. just needed one out and couldn't get it. yuch ... Not really hit all that hard. The big hit of the inning was just a flare to RF.

Wow just checking in now. Nestor has to go. He is done. He had a magic year a few years back and just never matched it.

Given away three extra outs this inning…a miracle only one run scored. I want to vomit… just a horrible game. Two in a row…

Pillar fouls off a FB on the corner away, 0-1 Fb in the zone up and away, popped foul behind 3rd, Verdugo comes in and over, but somehow loses it in the rain and wind, lands foul. Poor play there, not that it matters much at this point. Sinker down the middle, hit fairly well to left center, an easy play for Verdugo, inning over.
Bottom 8, 9-1 Angels. LeMahieu, Verdugo and back to the top for Torres in the 8th for the Yanks.

Coninuing on. Joe Gordon had fewer WAR than Willies because he lost two years to World War II, and because his career ended early because of a back injury, if I remember right.

Baumann in... DJ gets a slider near middle, hits a fliner than Moniak pulls up on, lets fall for a single.

Verdugo takes a slider up and in, 1-0 Slider in the middle, thigh high, pulled foul. Fb hits the top of the zone at 97, not called, 2-1. 40-50% on Gameday, bad call. Slider misses inside, Verdugo chase and fouls it. Takes his timeout. Curve hangs high above middle, 3-2 Slider hangs inside corner, lined to right for a hit, DJ holds at 2nd down by 8 in the 8th.

Willie's ahead of Billy Herman because he too missed two years to World War II. He's ahead of Jackie Robinson for the obvious.

Torres gets a slider above and outside middle foul tips it. Slider hangs above and inside middle, and Torres hits the 5th almost HR of the night for the Yanks, drives it to the track in right, Adell catches a step or two from the wall, DJ tags and moves to 3rd with 1 down.

Soto up. Slider down and in, fouled back. Curve on the outer half stays up, and Soto serves it to center for a hit, DJ scores, Verdugo stops at 2nd down by 7. 9-2 Angels.
The last HOF 2nd baseman behind Willie in WAR is Craig Biggio, who in there because: 3000 hits and EVERY player with 3000 hits is in the Hall.

Slider away, Judge goes with it nicely, hits a sinking liner to right, but Adell backhands it above the ground on the dead run for the out. Angels have an extremely good defensive outfield out there. Probably one of the reasons why Anderson's BABIP is so low.
