103 game over. thankfully O's lose so we remain tied for 1st as we're now on a mini losing streak. the offense for the most part shut down the last 2 nights and couldn't overcome 2 poor starts.

Torres swings under a FB at 103 near the top, 0-1 Takes a FB on the outer 3rd at 102, waist high, 0-2 FB at 103 just above the knees outside middle, Torres still trying to find it, takes it for strike 3 to end the game.
Yanks lose 9-4, and the Angels win the series, and split the season's series. Yanks drop back to 20 games over .500 at 68-48 with 46 games to go.
I said before the Yanks hit 6 near HRs tonight, but Statcast was out on multiple balls hit tonight so I don't know if any of them would've been HRs anywhere else, except maybe the one Moniak robbed on Soto.
I'ts hard to win when the starter buries you early. Especially if you don't capitalize on early opportunities yourself.

Well the orioles look like they will lose as well but this whole series just was annoying with the double header effecting things and bad weather Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk It's strange, but for a team with one of the best records in the league, the Yankees have too many games like this. we certainly have these stinkers but pretty sure the other teams have them as well or else they would have blown past us when we sucked for 35 games. the other team's grass is not necessarily greener. jmho ...

Getting knocked around by a genuinely bad offensive team back to back games is certainly discouraging. Hopefully we get a rebound and not another spiral the other way. On to the next one.

was 2-1 when i checked at the club. looks like they hit nestor hard in the 5th but de los santos put it out of reach. just needed one out and couldn't get it. yuch ... Not really hit all that hard. The big hit of the inning was just a flare to RF. True, but they did hit lots of balls hard off him in the first four, and I think Nestor was lucky he'd only given up 2 when the 5th inning started.

A lot falls on pitching but we had a great game 1 yesterday followed by 2 stinkers. The lack of consistency is frustrating.

Rookie starter without command at all. Veteran starter couldn't command the zone either. But yeah, this series was as dismal as the weather.

Especially this late in the season. Now, I know there are exceptions, like the 2006 Cards, who nearly collapsed out of the playoff in the last 10 days of the season, and barely wound up over .500, and the 2000 Yanks also played poorly for most of September, but the great teams, the serious title contenders are hitting 4th gear at this point of the season, about to go into overdrive. This team will need a hot Gil, Cole, Rodon, and a hot pen to get very far in the playoffs.

This is the most frustrating part of the season. There are no great, or even necessarily REALLY good teams out there. It's there for the taking this year, but we just haven't been able to get it together and pull away. I guess the flip side of the melancholy is with everyone else having clear weaknesses, maybe the baseball gods smile on us and the right guys get hot in September/October and carry us to a crown. If guys like Nestor/Stroman/Rodon (and Cole for that matter, though his injury grants him a bit of grace, IMO) would earn their damn paychecks, and we had another capable bullpen arm or two, we'd be a pretty formidable team.

I nearly bit my own elbow last night at some of the balls that got tracked down by Pillar in LF and Moniak in C. Except when Grisham is out there, Yankee pitchers never get that luxury.

OK...
No rest for the weary? Maybe not. Looks like a day off tomorrow with the rains and wind coming in from the remnants of Tropical Storm Debby. The schedule for the series against the incomng defending champ Rangers looks like this (all 3 games on YES, only because the Rangers aren't a hot team right now):
1st game is tomorrow evening at 7:07 pm, weather permitting: Corey Bradford (3-0, 3.96) ERA has been knocked around his last two starts, but the Rangers' offense got him off the hook for a loss in both of them. He'll start for the Rangers. Carlos Rodon (13-7, 4.37 ERA) has won 3 in a row after 6 terrible starts before that. He goes for the Yanks.
The 2nd game is the usual 1:07 pm Saturday matinee: Ex-Yankee Nathan Eovaldi (8-5, 3.62) almost never pitches poorly against the Yanks unless he's hurt/recovering from an injury, and starts for Texas. Eovaldi has been up and down lately, 5-3 with a 4.50 ERA his last 10 starts; 20 earned runs in 20 innings in the 4 downs; 10 earned runs in 40 innings in the 6 ups. Gerrit Cole has been up and down himself in 8 starts since coming off the IL. He's 3-2 with a 5.09 ERA on the season.
The series finale is the usual delayed Sunday matinee at 1:37 pm: Ex-Yankee Andrew Heaney pitches for the Rangers; he's 4-11 with a 3.98 ERA, but has been better than that recently 2-2 with a 3.58 ERA in his last 8 starts. Marcus Stroman goes for the Yanks; he's 7-6 with a 4.10 ERA, and has gotten pounded in his last 6 starts: 0-3 with an ERA of 7.56.
Series preview down, I'll make a last check of notifications.

The only positive is that Warren won't be on the posts season roster and Nestor probably won't be making post season starts.
