True, but they did hit lots of balls hard off him in the first four, and I think Nestor was lucky he'd only given up 2 when the 5th inning started. Good fielding improves pitching. I nearly bit my own elbow last night at some of the balls that got tracked down by Pillar in LF and Moniak in C. Except when Grisham is out there, Yankee pitchers never get that luxury. Yanks outfield defense has been a plus all season, but the Jays have three legit centerfielders, so that makes the Yankees' outifelders look weak by comparison. As measured by the three main advanced defensive metrics, Verdugo is +5 runs in left, Soto is +3 runs in right, and Judge is -1 run in center. Gisham is +3 runs in center, but has played just 422 innings in center, which prorates to about +9-10 runs over a pretty near full season.

Getting knocked around by a genuinely bad offensive team back to back games is certainly discouraging. Hopefully we get a rebound and not another spiral the other way. On to the next one. The only positive is that Warren won't be on the posts season roster and Nestor probably won't be making post season starts. Good enough but the fact is that MLB teams lose more than 2/3 of their games when they score fewer than 5 runs.

OK, notifications checked, I'm going to get going. See you tomorrow if the game is played, if not, see you for the first game of the double-header I assume they'd schedule for Saturday. Good night to all of you. Bye.

we certainly have these stinkers but pretty sure the other teams have them as well or else they would have blown past us when we sucked for 35 games. the other team's grass is not necessarily greener. jmho ... This is the most frustrating part of the season. There are no great, or even necessarily REALLY good teams out there. It's there for the taking this year, but we just haven't been able to get it together and pull away. I guess the flip side of the melancholy is with everyone else having clear weaknesses, maybe the baseball gods smile on us and the right guys get hot in September/October and carry us to a crown. If guys like Nestor/Stroman/Rodon (and Cole for that matter, though his injury grants him a bit of grace, IMO) would earn their damn paychecks, and we had another capable bullpen arm or two, we'd be a pretty formidable team. There are certain games you can tell though Boone doesn't put the full effort in and wants to get it over with. I saw that in the first game in Toronto, second half of the second game yesterday, then the entire game today. I guess overall tied for first and it's "fine", but really need to beat up on some of these bad teams coming up. However... tomorrow looks like it could lead to either playing in terrible conditions or ANOTHER double header Saturday which again leads to half lineups and stuff...hopefully the weather is better in Chicago and Detroit..

It's strange, but for a team with one of the best records in the league, the Yankees have too many games like this. we certainly have these stinkers but pretty sure the other teams have them as well or else they would have blown past us when we sucked for 35 games. the other team's grass is not necessarily greener. jmho ... It's reminding me a lot of the New York Rangers season led the entire NHL in record most of the season. Had a bad month of January, but then recovered and finished with the best record in the NHL. Yankees could do the same easily as Philly and LA in the NL and Bal/Cle in the AL aren't pulling away. Just hope that the Yankees fate ends of differently than the Rangers once the playoffs start.. Yankees need to play better at home though 30-26 there vs 38-22 road. They could wind up with 50 + wins on the road.

It's been really nice in Chicago the past two or three days. No rain, lower temps and low humidity, can't ask for better than that in August. I have tickets for Wednesday's series finale in Chicago against the Yanks so I hope the good weather continues.

I have something to do tonight so I'm sort've glad. I'm looking forward to Carton and Waldman in the booth. I'll listen tomorrow but wouldn't have been able to tonight.

Yankees as I said are playing very New York Rangers 2024 if you look at the statistics and standings they are high and even leading categories. However you can just visually see certain games they just shut the switch off which causes them to have to put full effort in situations later they should have never been in... There's just something with this team under Boone that some games it's apparent whether it's lineups or pitching decisions or player safety that the win isn't important that day and the players seem to buy into it. A lot falls on pitching but we had a great game 1 yesterday followed by 2 stinkers. The lack of consistency is frustrating. Mark of a team that isn't a true title contender, JEG. Especially this late in the season. Now, I know there are exceptions, like the 2006 Cards, who nearly collapsed out of the playoff in the last 10 days of the season, and barely wound up over .500, and the 2000 Yanks also played poorly for most of September, but the great teams, the serious title contenders are hitting 4th gear at this point of the season, about to go into overdrive. This team will need a hot Gil, Cole, Rodon, and a hot pen to get very far in the playoffs. I get what you are saying but by this definition no team in the AL is a true title contender. The Orioles have lost plenty of games like this lately and is a reason why they are tied in the standings with the Yankees. The Red Sox have cooled down and have hovered about 5 back since the last series against the Yankees. The twins royals and guardians were hot for a while but they've also went back into hovering around their same record lately. Yankees and royals are 7-3 in their last 10. Rest of the AL? No one better than 6-4 with 9 of 15 teams in the AL being .500 or worse in that span. So I dunno who really is a "true title contender" if the Yankees are not by your definition. The AL overall is just meh and it's wide open. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
