After a long inning from Rodon, Volpe goes out and swings at the first pitch. He's still learning the little things about this game.

Michael Kay, everything heals quicker when your 23. Nobody likes you when you're 23.

Rice takes a FB outside, 1-0 Takes a cutter inside, 2-0 Great idea!! Let's not take a strike for our pitcher, let's chase a FB tailing outside on 2-0, hit a bouncer to the left of 2nd where Semien backhans, turns and throws him out, 2 down. Great job by the hitters so far this inning.

So I guess Dominguez might need some more reps at AAA before coming back up, but even "hitting under .200" would be an improvement over what Grisham's done lately. Oh, and Dominguez can actually throw a runner out from CF. I can't believe this guy won a gold glove with a noodle arm.

Grisham takes a FB near the low inside corner for strike 1 Takes another FB in the middle near the top, 0-2 Takes his timeout. FB inside has him jackknifing a bit, 1-2 Splitter stays in the zone low/away, fouled off. Splitter dives down and in, he starts, but takes, 2-2 FB inside at 97 makes him spin away, 3-2 FB starts low, stays way low, Grisham doesn't chase, ball 4. Thank you Mr. Grisham for a professional at bat for a walk there. Even if it leads to nothing, it give Rodon a bit of rest.

Well, how often do you see a 5 unassisted putout at 2nd base, especially with the new shift rules.

Verdugo takes a splitter down and in, 1-0 Swings over a FB in the middle at the knees, 1-1 FB tails outside, Verdugo taps it off the end of the bat toward the normal shortstop position, fielded by Young in his extreme shift position, and with Seager moving to back him up, and Semien having to come from over in the hole, he simply runs to 2nd for the rare 5 grounder unassisted putout at 2nd. Inning over. 14 pitches for Eovaldi, 43 through 2.
Top 3, 1-0 Yanks. Top of the order for the Rangers: Smith, Seager and Semien.
I like Caitlin Clark, and she threw out the 1st pitch, but why oh why is she being interviewed? Because YES carries Liberty games?

Can we at least get more Caitlin Clark on the TV screen if we're going to have to listen to a pointless interview?

Seager takes a slider right down the middle, 0-1 FB at the top, swung under, 1-1 Bounces a slider near the corner away, 1-2 Slider bends about 4-5 inches outside, swings inside it for the K, 2 down.

Semien takes a change low, just inside middle, 1-0 FB misses just outside above the waist, 2-0 Gets under a curve misses well outside, 3-0 FB barely clips the corner up in the zone, taken, 20% on Gameday Chases a FB outside at 98, waist high, 3-2 Flies open a bit, FB misses well up and away, ball 4.

Semien is 3 for 5 stealing bases. Doesn't get the chance, as Jung gets a 1st pitch curve waist high, inner 3rd, lines it to left center for a hit. Verdugo on it and has a short throw, so Semien stops at 2nd with 2 down.

That's not bad for a part-time player who plays excellent centerfield defense.

Langford takes a waist high slider on the back door, 0-1 Flies open on the FB again, misses way up and away, 1-1 Rodon command not sharp right now. FB misses well inside, 2-1 Change on the corner away, above the waist, fouled, 2-2 FB misses just high at 98, above the outer 3rd, 3-2 FB just inside at 98, Langford protects and fouls it back. Langord guess change by location and count, takes a FB on the outside corner, thigh high at 98.5 for the ꓘ. Inning over.
Rodon pitches out of trouble again, but 21 pitches after throwing 25 in the 2nd. He's at 59 through 3. Bottom 3, 1-0 Yanks. Soto, Judge and Wells for the Yanks in the 3rd.

Rodon argues a call from before at the end of the inning, right after he goes two calls on the corner to ꓘ Langford. Not very smart, Carlos.
