Eovaldi stays in.
Torres goes after a first pitch slider on the corner away, fouls it off, 0-1 FB well high above the inner 3rd, taken, 1-1 Bounces a curve well outside, good block by Heim, 2-1 Splitter tails well inside waist high, 3-1 Go to right again, Gleyber... Arrggg. FB in the zone above and outside middle, he takes it. That was the one to go to the Porch with, Gleyber. FB above and inside middle, chopped to short, Seager holds Wells, throws out Torres, 1 down.

You know, if you dress up Grisham in a cowboy hat, western shirt, boots, jeans, and one of those tan, sheep fur lined coats and put a cigarette in his mouth, he could easily grace a billboard as The Marlboro Man.

Wells has really come on of late. I wonder if anyone thought the Yankees would have the #2 and #3 players in the AL Rookie of the Year race and neither of them is named Dominguez.

Chisholm takes a FB outside, waist high, 1-0 Fb in the zone below and outside middle, fouled, 1-1 Cutter breaks down and in to the drop the bat happy zone, but the movement is sharp enough to keep him from centering it, fouls it off, 1-2 Splitter in the zone fouled. FB at the top of the zone, hit hard through the right side for a hit, Garcia throws all the way home, Wells held, and a heads-up Chisholm alertly goes to 2nd on the throw over the cutoff man. Infield in for Volpe, who's 0-7 vs. Eovaldi.

The right fielder completely missing the cutoff man reminds me of Billy Martin's quote after Dave Winfield hit a bird in warmups. Loosely quoted: "There's no way Winfield hit that bird on purpose. Anyone who watches him knows he hasn't hit a cutoff man all year."

Volpe chases a diving splitter well low, loses the bat into the stands over the Rangers dugout, 0-1 Splitter bounced outside, Volpe lays off that one, 1-1 Gotta put it in play, even if it results in a throwout at home, Volpe. Misses a FB inner 3rd, waist high, that was the pitch. Sign Splitter dives down and in, and Volpe chases, but fouls. Overthrows the FB way high trying to get a chase, doesn't work, 2-2 Horrific Stantonian chase on the curve way out of the zone low and away for the K, 2 down. Terrible at bat by Volpe with a chance to break it open.

Saying "defending World Series Champion Texas Rangers" feels so weird.

Rice gets a poorly located cutter just below and inside middle, but misses it, fouling it off. FB just above where the cutter went, fouled. Missed two cookies here, Ben. Splitter outside, taken, 1-2 A cutter is outside at the top, and he chases that for the K as well. Yanks blow a golden chance to knock out Eovaldi early with 2 bad chasing K's. Inning over.
34 pitches for Eovaldi in the 3rd, at 81 pitches, he's not in there for more than another inning or two at most. Top 4, 3-0 Yanks. 6-7-8 for the Rangers in the 4th, Lowe, Garcia and Grossman.
