Chisholm falls behind 1-2, Fouls off a FB away, gets a change inner half below the knees, golfs it out to deep right center, back to back HRs make it 9-4 Yankees. Chisholm sets a career high with his 20th this season. Yay. Still doesn't have one in The Porch.

Chisholm's 20th and 2nd of the day: 100.3 mph, 390 feet, 36° launch angle, a HR in 17 of 30 parks.
Torres takes a curve on the corner away, 0-1 Gets a curve near middle, pops it to short right, easy play for Garcia, inning over. Yanks get 3 showy runs on two showy HR, down a mere five runs heading to the 9th, 9-4 Rangers.
Kahnle will mop up the 9th, facing Taveras, Kelly and Smith.

Did the board crash out on everyone else? Missed the Rangers going 1-2-3 in the 9th on 3rd grounders. David Robertson in to pitch the 9th for the Rangers. Volpe grounds out to Lowe at 1st. 1 down.

Wells falls behind 0-2, then can't check on a bounced curve for the K, 2 down.

FB at the very top, outer half, not called, 25% on Gameday, Stanton gets a mild break, 1-0 Sinker runs 4-5 inches inside, taken, 2-0 FB in the zone down and in, and Stanton gets it down near the end of the bat, but golfs it out into the netting over Monument Park, 2 run HR makes the score more respectable, Yanks now down 9-3. Yay for him; he needed to get going and now he has.

DJ works the count to 3-2, gets a cutter near middle, topped up the middle to the left of 2nd, Seager gets it without trouble, throws him to end it.
Rangers win the nightcap, 9-4, splitting the double-header aqnd pushing the Yanks back to 20 over .500, 69-49 with 44 to play. The O's are back in first by a 1/2 game, and jumped on Drew Rasmussen for 4 hits and 3 runs in the 1st, the big hit a 2 run single by Mountcastle. If that score holds, the O's will move a full game in front.

OK, so the Yanks split the double header and lose back the 1/2 game they gained in the opener. Jays and Red Sox have already lost, so the Yanks still gain 1/2 game on them. If the O's win, they move 1 game ahead, but the Yanks gain 1/2 game on the Rays as well.
If the O's hold the early lead, then the Yanks are 1 game behind, 6 1/2 up on Boston, 10 up on the Rays, and 15 up on the Jays. If they don't, the Jays and Rays stay where they are, the Yanks move back into a tie for first, and the Rays get to 9 games behind.

Life of a reliever... In 1/3 of an inning, Weaver went from an excellent season (2.81 ERA) to a so-so season (3.50 ERA). Still nice to see Cole getting tough and whiffing guys when he needed to. Dropped his ERA to 4.70 in the no-decision.
Series finale is tomorrow, the usual late Sunday matinee at 1:37 pm. Ex-Yankee Andrew Heaney (4-11, with a 3.98 ERA) but has pitched better than his ERA, starts for Texas. Heaney has brought his ERA down from 4.69 in his last 12 starts, with all 4 of his wins against 5 losses. The Rangers are scoring about 4 1/2 runs per game, but less than 3 1/2 per 9 while Heaney's in the game. Marcus Stroman pitches for the 1st time in 9 days, looking for something, anything to turn his season back around. He's now 7-6 on the season with an ERA of 4.10, and hasn't had a win, or even a quality start, in his last 6 games: 0-3 with an ERA of 7.56, 6 HR and a WHIP of 1.920 in 25 innings.
