Not sure how the umpire missed that one. Yes, very odd. The ump was right on top of it, looking right down at the tag. Great positioning, bad call. Verdugo leads off. Takes a FB below middle, 0-1 Swings through a slider below middle, 0-2 FB outside at the top, 1-2 FB below and inside, he inside outs a grounder to Jung, he runs around the backhand, throws in a hurry, way off to the RF side, gets by Lowe for an E-5. Yanks get the leadoff man on for Soto. |

Soto takes a FB just outside near the top of the zone.
Takes a slider that pretty much bounced just before the mitt, 2-0
FB above middle, Soto hits it well, but got under it, the high fly to left center is caught on the backhand by Taveras on the track, 1 down.

Judge takes a FB about 8 inches below the outside corner, 1-0
Takes a 93 FB on the low inside corner, 1-1
FB at the low outside corner, lined to center off the end of the bat, Taveras playing deep has no chance, Verdugo reads it as a hit right away, turns and goes to 3rd on the Judge single with 1 out.

Stanton gets a waist high FB outer 3rd, but misses, fouling it off.
Takes a FB just above the inner 3rd, 1-1
Takes a change missing low/away, 2-1
Beats him clean with a 92 FB inner 3rd above the waist, 2-2
Comes in with the same pitch, a bit further inside, ties him up just enough that his barrelled drive to left center, dies well short of the track, but deep enough to score Verdugo, Taveras catches, 2 down, 1-0 Yanks on the sac fly!

Judge goes, slider low on the outside corner, popped to short right, Semien goes back and catches, inning over.

Sinker backs on the corner away, thigh high, Langford rolls over on it to Volpe, fields, throws him out, 1 down.

Takes a cutter well outside, waist high, 2-0
Good sinker with two plane movement to the corner low/away, swung over. 2-1
Throws a splitter to the same spot, making Garcia early as he bounces it foul off 3rd, 2-2
Slider way low and outside, no chase by Garcia, 3-2
Closer slider still misses by 4-5 inches, Garcia takes, ball 4.

Splitter dives outside late at the knees, 1-1
Good sinker to the knees, outer 3rd, taken 1-2
Same splitter at the 0-1 pitch, but a couple more inches outside, taken, 2-2
Throw over on Garcia.
Splitter dives low in the middle, Taveras chases and fouls
Sinker dives well outside, Taveras doesn't even flinch, 3-2
Sinker tails just outside at the knees, drawing a soft hack, hit off the end of the bat, the looping liner goes to Chisholm, backing up and left a couple of steps to catch it, inning over. I thought that was gonna be a flare single, but Taveras didn't hit it well enough.
Bottom 2, 1-0 Yanks.
