Taveras takes a slider down and in, 1-0 Takes a bad slider to the drop the bat happy zone, down and in, 1- Taveras is not a big HR hitter, but has more than enough power to crush that into the porch Sinker at the very bottom outside middle, taken, called strike 2. 10% on Gameday Flies open a bit misses just outside, 2-2 and Garcia steals 2nd, putting the go ahead run in scoring position. Flies open again, slider misses further outside, 3-2 Pray for an at-em ball, folks.

taveras grounds out to gelyber who goes to his knees. yankees win. much too much drama but holmes gets it done. O's lose so yanks move back into to a tie as they reach the 70 win mark.

Holmes is just as bad as Chapman was the last couple of years. Loses command which puts him in jams.

Slider on the outer 3rd, Taveras tries to pull, rolls it to Torres, who makes a weird sort of pickup, bollixing himelf up for the throw, he stumbles on the throw, but gets it to first in time, game over. Not even gonna do the Murphy thing here, Yanks don't deserve it. Not just Holmes, but Leiter gets a lot of blame for bad pitching, keeping the Rangers alive for the 9th.
Yanks hang on by their fingernails to win, 8-7, but I'm not thrilled. This game never should've been this tough. Granted the Rangers are defending champs and a tough out, but this just won't do in the postseason.

Yanks win, but doesn't feel great. The bullpen is BAD. Really bad. And our starters rarely make it even 6 innings exacerbating the teams biggest weakness. Cashman needed to solidify this at the deadline and didn't do nearly enough. On to the next one.

I have to agree with Paul O'Neill about pitch sequencing and Holmes, which I have complained about many, many times.
