Instead he gave an easy out to a struggling pitcher. I didn't see the play, so I'll play devil's advocate a bit... Is the complaint that he attempted the bunt, or that he didn't execute? Was the 3B playing deep and off the bag? Let’s put it this way. Had the bunt been a good one and the runners on 2nd and 3rd afterward, no one would be complaining… I think it’s all about execution … |

When he popped up that bunt last night with no outs and 1st and 2nd occupied I think I'd have given him a coffee break. He could've K'd or worse, GIDP. Had he gotten it down it would've been runners on 2nd-3rd with Soto coming to the plate. So you are telling me that Verdugo has no confidence in his ability to drive in runs ? He is happy to leave that to Soto and Judge ? Is he buying a ticket to see the game ? I've seen guys bunt into DPs...I suspect you have too. If the moment was too big for him, he should leave the bat in the rack and walk to the plate with the scorecard. You can't hit that way but you might get some autorgraphs from real players. |

vaighan greets de los santos w a double to LF. haven't been impressed by de los santos. Maybe he's in a pitching slump? He pitched well when he was with Cleveland, and pitched well vs the Yankees in the postseason a couple of years ago. |

So, it wasn't a bad idea...right? But had he hit into a GIDP there'd be even more complaints. I see how that works. |

When he popped up that bunt last night with no outs and 1st and 2nd occupied I think I'd have given him a coffee break. boone didn't wanna talk about that last night. can't imagine it was called. and we've seen soto do it a couple times. nonetheless, not sure what cliff he's fallen off this season. he was a career .281 coming in. pretty sure he won't be back.
as for the leadoff thing, volpe has failed. that's leaves gleyber as the other option. pick your poison. guess they could put jazz in that spot. they seem to like him further down.

He wont be back ... He and Gleyber have been gigantic disappointments in there walk seasons A season in which the Yankees would easily have the best record in the MLB if either had just been average versions of themselves agree. would change everything at least offensively. in addition to those two, throw DJ (maybe coming around) & rizzo into the mix. lots of under performance from established veterans this season. if those guys hit anywhere near the back of their baseball cards, we'd be far ahead despite the pitching problems. then there's volpe who a lot more was expected of. I'll cut Volpe some slack ... He just turned 23 the beginning of this season He raised his BA 40pts OBP 15 pts slg % , OPS , and OPS+ while dropping his k Rate from 27.6% to 22.3 % while continuing to play a GG shortstop He needs to get more selective but I think he will and when he does he's really going to make a huge jump |

clearly poorly executed. don't remember the fielding alignment but think it had to be a case of if they're giving it, then take it. worse case 2nd & 3rd w one out.
Yes..."worse case 2nd & 3rd w one out" with Soto coming to the plate, or best case, bases loaded with Soto at the plate...had he gotten it down. Just didn't execute. If you are playing for a run against one of the worst teams in MLB hstory ... you deserve to lose 12-2 |

I get why the Yankees did it, but it's hard for most players to skip AAA. |
