Stanton takes a FB well outside, 1-0 Takes a slider that maybe clipped the bottom of the zone down the middle, called a ball anyway, both Cannon and Lee froze exptecting the call, and maybe they're right, 10-20% on Gameday. Waist high slider, outside cornet taken, 2-1 Change 3-4 inches inside, fouled down, 2-2 Change bounced near home, 3-2 Slider misses well low, outside middle, Stanton lays off, ball 4. 95 pitches for Cannon now, 18 this inning, so far. Lee goes out to talk to him.

OK, Lee was stalling. Sizemore goes to lift Cannon, bring in the lefty Ellard to pitch to Rice. Ellard in his 4th major league game, weird line so far, 1 2/3 innings, 0 hits, 3 BB, 2 K. In AAA, he k'd 59 in 40 2/3 but walked 30, ERA near 4.00.
FB 95-6 about 2/3 of the time Slider 85, 25% The rest are cutters averaging 91.

For those of us who follow the Yanks minor leaguers, it was good to see Andres Chapparo get his first major league hit for the Nationals. He's 3 for 4 with 3 doubles in his MLB debut.

FB misses inside at the bottom, Rice swings over it, 0-1 FB yanked low/away at 96, 1-1 Slider misses outside above the knees, 2-1 FB at the knees, outer 3rd, Rice thought it was the slider going low, took it for strike 2. Big breaking slider winds up low/away, Rice starts, checks barely in time, 3-2 FB waist high, right on the edge of the corner away, Rice tosses the bat away as if he walked, might as well keep going to the bench to grab hit mitt, because it was strike 3, 10% on Gameday, too close to take, certainly.
Yanks add one more, going bottom 5, it's Soto 3, White Sox 0.
Sheets, Lee and Vargas for the White Sox in their half of the 5th inning.

Sheets takes a slider that ended up right down Broadway, 0-1 Can't check on another going well outside, 0-2 Takes another just outside thigh high, 1-2 A 4th straight sweep is further outside, taken, 2-2 FB on the outer 3rd, fouled. Slider about 3-4 inches outside, he's late and under, pops to Cabrera, who backs up on the OF grass near 3rd, catches, 1 down.

Lee takes a slider outside, 1-0 Takes a FB high on the inner 3rd, 2-0 Takes a cutter even higher, inner 3rd, 3-0 FB waist high, inside corner, Lee with the green light, fouls it off, 3-1 Same pitch an inch or two off the plate inside, fouled, 3-2 Cutter into the zone above and outside middle, swings early and under, K's, 2 down.

FB at 94 again, on the corner inside, ties him up just enough that even though he put a good swing on it, the flyball dies in medium deep left center, Verdugo jogs left and back a few steps, catches, inning over.
Top 6, 3-0 Yanks. 20 pitches for Nestor in the 5th, 77 through 5. Torres, Cabrera and Volpe for the Yanks in the 6th.
Soto's 32nd HR and 2nd of the game: 110.4 mph, 416 feet, 25° launch angle, a HR in 38 of 30 ballparks.

Torres takes a FB outside, ball 1 FB inner half, waist high, fouled back, 1-1 FB inside, thigh high, pulled hard down 3rd, Vargas makes a good backhand stop on a high hop, throws hard to 1st, it bounces, but Vaughn plays the bounce, 1 down. Good play on both ends.
