Getting Bob Sykes for Willie McGee should get a mention here ! The Yankees did get a make up deal from the Cardinals for the injured Skyes in 1982 by receiving INF Bobby Meacham (former #1 draft pick) and Stan Javier. AA Nashville OF Willie McGee path was block by veteran MLB Outfielders at MLB level.

In 1982, the Yankee included young minor leaguer, Fred McGriff in a trade with the Blue Jays for reliever Dale Murray. Just one of the many bad trades the team made in the 80's. The above mentioned McGee for Sykes being another. Fred McGriff's path to Yankees 1B was blocked by Don Mattingly and others. He would play in the Blue Jays farm system from 1983 to 1986. He was just a Class A minor league outfielder, just like when the Pirates sent the Yankees a 19-year old Class A Outfielder named Jay Buhler.

Mets fans still speak fondly of Yarnall. He was a big piece of the deal that brought them Piazza Yeah, Piazza's memorable five-game stay with the Marlins. I saw Ed Yarnall's first (of three) major league starts and his lone victory on September 5 1999 in Anaheim. I remember thinking he looked promising. Which he did for that day. LSU boy!

McGee was traded in October of '81 and a few weeks later the Yankees signed Ken Griffey Sr. as a free agent

Your guys are everywhere Rizz. Yes, but wasn't he born in Pennsylvania? Yes he was. About 10 miles from where I am sitting. There was a big mall there that Ed would definitely have hung out in.
