Stanton takes a slider below middle, 0-1 Sinker diving inside corner, bounced foul near his feet, 0-2 Overthrown FB well high, outside middle, no chase, 1-2 Slider just outside, Stanton on it, but hits a medium liner off the end of the bat, right to Baez, who makes a short jump to catch it, 2 down.

Verdugo... Slider backs up well outside, ball 1 Sinekr dives outside near the top, 2-0 Slider backs up outside 3-0. Pitching around Verdugo to get to Volpe? With a 4 run lead. Not likely.

There's the walk. Need a bloop or a bleeder here.

Sinker intot the top of the zone in the middle, taken for a strike. Sinker tails well outside, ball 4 1st and 2nd, 2 down for Volpe. Pitching coach Fetter goes out there to kick Foley's butt around a bit.

Volpe is 0-3 vs. Foley, if that matters. Takes a slider down and in for a strike. Takes a sinker running well inside, 1-1

Takes a FB above the outer 3rd, goes off the heel of Dingler's mitt, kicks behind him for a passed ball. Judge and Verdugo go to 3rd and 2nd , 2-1 on Volpe Excellent sinker starts outside catches the corner up and away, 2-2 Sinker in the zone up and in, fouled Throw that one about 3 inches higher, Foley and Volpe will miss under it.

Judge and Waldo with the only solid hits on the day. At least, the bullpen kept the game close after Rodon had nothing to offer in location, movement, or deception today. He was as readable as a comic book.

Slider outside middle middle, and Volpe is just a bit off balance, hits the high fly to deep left, Vierling goes back to the wall, and catches before bumping into it. Game over.
Yanks lose 4-0, getting just 4 hits and only one for extra bases, and just 3 walks as well. Yanks offense had basically two chances in this game. Volpe's infield single in the 2nd got Rice up with two outs and two on and the Yanks down just 1-0, but he popped to center. Volpe got to bat with 2 on and 2 out in the 9th, and he hit it well, but it died at the wall in left to end it.
Yanks lose, breaking the 3-game winning streak, and drop back to 22 games over .500 at 73-51 with 38 games left in the regular season.

Cubs still lead the Jays 1-0 in the 3rd in Wrigley, that game has resumed after a rain delay. Rays and D'backs start in about 13 minutes. Red Sox and O's get underway in Camden Yards in about 4 hours, 12 minutes from now.
No nead the rehash the standings, for the moment, the Yanks have lost 1/2 game to the whole division.
The rubber game is tomorrow with a small negative, a medium negative and a huge negative:
1) The small negative is that they have to play a weirdo game in a strange ballpark, the Little League celelbration game in Williamspot, PA. ugh. 2) The medium negative is they it's The ESPNIDon'tFeelLikeInventingAnotherLongNameToDescribeMyDisdainForTheirSundayNightGameCastCast at 7:10 pm. UGH. 3) The huge negative in the pitching matchup. It's Stroman's turn in the rotation, and he's thrown two decent games in a row, more or less, but he's still not able to throw strikes and win consistently. Maybe he can fool the Tigers hitters with his junk to keep the Yanks in the game to the late innings, but Rodon's short start has depleted the pen, possibly taking Cousins out of it. Stroman is 8-6 with a 4.01 ERA so far this season, and is in the bottom 10 in just about every ratio category among quaiflied AL starts: WHIP, HR per 9, BB per 9, K's per 9, and worst in K/BB ratio. Opposing Stroman is the pitcher at the opposite end of the spectrum: Tarik Skubal, who leads the AL in Wins, ERA and WHIP, and top 10, usually top 5 in just about everything else important. And he's a lefty, and the Yanks don't often hit mediocre and bad lefties, let alone elite lefties. It's rare that the Yanks will be on the wrong end of a "runs" line, especially against the Tigers, but they might actually be tomorrow evening. Tigers should be favored at least. I'm not exactly looking forward to it. UGH.
OK, one last check of notifications and I'll be going for today.
