Just can't give this kind of contact against hitters this bad.

Malloy takes a curve down and in, ball 1 Fouls off a FB above middle, 1-1 Swings over a change waist high, outer 3rd, 1-2 Misses a FB at the high outside corner, finally a couple of swings and misses, too late.
Tigers get 3, lead 4-0, going top 3rd. 36 pitches for Rodon in the 2nd, 55 through 2. Cabrera, then back to the top for Verdugo and Soto for the Yanks in the 2nd.

How can we trust Rodon in the playoffs? Because they have no one better? Stroman? Cortes?

How can we trust Rodon in the playoffs? We can't. Another brilliant Cashman move.

This is a major disappointment, especially when you consider the Yanks face Skubal tomorrow in Williamsport.

Pooping the bed against a bad team is a bit of a habit for us…

Cabrera takes a FB above the zone, outer half, 1-0 Takes a FB low in the zone near middle, 1-1 Slider backs up way outside, 2-1 FB overthrown high, above the outside corner, 3-1. Get it over FB above and inside middle, pulled sharply, hit hard to Ibanez' left, he goes down to make sure, and it just gets through him, weirdly scored a hit, should've been an error. Cabrera will take it. Leadoff "single" for Cabrera.

Torres fouls off a sinker inside middle, 0-1 Takes a FB well outside, 1-1 FB hits the inside corner, not called. Torres got a break, 5% on Gameday. Doesn't take advantage, sinker down and in, grounded to short, Baez bobbles, bobbles it again, but still has time to get the force at 2nd, 1 down.

Easy double play but Javy boot is, lucky to get one out.

Soto takes a thigh-high Fb outside middle, 0-1 Sharp dropping slider, going to the knees near middle, Soto early and over it, 0-2 FB gets a tiny piece of the low outside corner, Dingler pulls it up and maybe blows the call, 25-30% strike, Soto gets a break there, bad call. Change drops below middle, and Soto swings over it for the K. Soto also fails to take advantage of the break. 2 down.

Pooping the bed against a bad team is a bit of a habit for us… Fortunately we're not alone in this regard. Doesn't make it any less frustrating. Imagine how good this team could be with another solid starter or two behind Cole and Gil and another couple of reliable arms in the BP. Instead we have inconsistent salary thieves like Rodon and Stroman and a patchwork, powder keg bullpen.

Judge takes a FB low in the zone near middle, 0-1 Takes a another in almost the same spot, 0-2 FB well outside, 1-2 Slider goes low/away, crowd groans, Flats says "just misses" and it was close, but not THAT close. Good take, though, 2-2 FB at or below the bottom in the middle, Judge spoils FB maybe got the very top of the zone at the corner away, not called, Judge maybe got a break, 10-20% on Gameday. 3-2 Slider inside, Judge rolls it into the 56 hole, Baez backhands, throws high to 1st, but Torkelson comes down with it in time, inning over.
Torres, Soto and Judge all got a break on a call in their at bats, failed to take advantage. That's how you know what time it is.
Bottom 3, 4-0 Tigers. The did make Montero throw 20 pitches, so they got Rodon some rest. 56 through 3 for Montero. Keith, Dingler and Torkelson for the Tigers in the 3rd.

Awfully slow FB at 92 in the zone low/away, taken by Keith, 0-1 Curve drops low and outside at 80, 1-1. Rodon throwing 2-3 mph slower than usual right now. Slider NOT low and away, Flats, waist high, outer 3rd, slapped softly off the end of the bat, almost a swinging bunt down 3rd, Cabrera playing to pull, all he do is slide to his right, knock it down and prevent the infield hit from being a leadoff double.

Lots of spinning sliders and poor fastball location thus far for Rodan.
