Keith takes a sinker that just missed down and in, 1-0 Bad slider winds up middle, fouled off, 1-1 Sinker misses well low/away, 2-1 Sinker dives to the edge of the corner away, waist high, swung on and missed, 2-2 Takes his timeout. Sharp dropping slider starts outside middle, drops way low, Keith doesn't flinch, 3-2 Sinker diving to the edge of the high outside corner, Keith again swings under and inside, strike 3. 2 down.

Slider backs up and in to Dingler. Slider drops low in the middle, tapped down 3rd, swinging bunt, Cabrera charges, do or die play, barehands, throws off line to the HP slide,Rice has to come off to catch, swipes at his heel, but the ump says safe.
Yanks think he got him on the heel before he got the foot on first. Yanks challenging, and the call should be overturned, as he clearly tagged him on the foot. Call overturned, excellent play by Cabrera to even get it in the area of 1st in time, and a great swipe tag by Rice to convert it into the 3rd out.
Top 6, 4-0 Tigers. 9 pitch inning for Cousins and 19 through 2. Top of the order for the Yanks: Torres, Soto and Judge, 3rd look at Montero, so if they're going to get anything done against him, it'll be now. Tigers were warming Holton before the inning though.

MTY is Jeff Weaver. What a terrible trade that was. Re: the Weaver trade. it turned out to be a disaster, but actually, at the time, Weaver was the better pitcher. Of course, he pitched in Tiger Stadium, but at the time of the deal, Torre couldn't seem to get 5 innings out of Lilly in most starts and Weaver was more durable and his record was just as good if not bettter. Turned out that Weaver was another pitcher that couldn't handle NY and the Yanks, but he proved himself just 3 years after the Yanks got rid of him, as he was the 2nd best starter on the title-winning Cards team in 2006. I hated the trade the day it happened. Lilly made 11 starts for the Yankees in 2002 and went more than 6 innings in 6 of them, including a 3 hit shut out a week before the trade where he struck out 11. Plus he was left handed and wasn't intimated by Yankee Stadium. Everyone seemed to know at the time that Weaver wasn't made for NYC, except Cashman.

And Hinch was warming Holton, and Hinch lifts Montero, goes to Holton. Holton has a low K rate, but also very low hit rate, low BB rate and low HR rate, so he pitches to soft contact. ERA is 2.66 in 67 2/3 innings, and has "opened" 5 games for Detroit this year.
Kitchen sink junkballing righty: 4 seam, cutter, sinker, slider curve change, none of them used more than 27%

Soto fouls off a sinker on the corner inside, 0-1 Takes a sinker on the outer 3rd at the knees, 0-2 Chases a cutter up and away, strike 3, 1 down.

Judge takes a cutter low, 1-0 FB at the knees taken. 1-1 Swings over a cutter at the knees, 1-2 Spoils a change well low Takes a FB well up and away, 2-2 Cutter thigh high in the middle, pulled foul off 3rd. Change just outside, fouled back. FB on the corner away, fouled Takes his timeout. Cutter low, inner half, Judge chases and fouls it off 3rd. 10th pitch of the AB here. Got the mistake he was waiting for on the cutter just inside middle, but he misses late and under, pops to Ibanez in short right center, 2 down.

Wells takes a slider on the inside corner, 0-1 Sinker to the same spot, thigh high, jams him a bit, chopped to the right of 2nd, fielded by Baez on the right of 2nd, throws him out, inning over.
Yanks do nothing with the leadoff walk, trail 4-0, bottom 6. Torkelson, Jung and Baez for the Tigers in the 6th, let's see if the Yanks go to someone else.

You need great OF play in this stadium and the Yankees haven't got that today.

I don't doubt that you felt that way. Lots of Yankees fans did. Among those 11 starts you mentioned, in the last 9. Lilly had starts of 5 2/3 innings, 5 1/3, 5, 4 and 4 innings. Twenty years ago, 5 innings was not considered a good enough start. I well remember that great game he threw against the Sox just before he got traded, and I was happy that the Yanks were developing a pitcher, finally, but he followed it with a bad short start against the Mets (Is it possible the Boss forced the traded? We know he hated to get embarrassed in the Subway Series). Nowaday, 5 innings is acceptable, but then, they were supposed to go deeper, pitching staffs were not 13 pitchers. More later.

Yea one of those feels like 40-0 games. Maybe I'll feel different if they make it 4-2, but just meh so far.
