Change outside the zone, slapped through the left side, Dominguez charges, but is SURPRISED by McKinstry heading home, double clutches, and the hesitation makes the throw late and the Tigers walk it off. Another terrible blow save because the Yanks have almost no relievers whose stuff other teams can't pit in play.
Yanks blow the lead twice in two innings and lose the series, 2-1, and the game 3-2. Yanks lose their 2nd straight, drop back to 21 over .500 at 73-52 with 37 left on the schedule. Fall back into a tie for 1st with the O's. Sox stay 7 games back. Rays 10 games back in 4th, and the Jays are 14 1/2 back in 5th.

I'd rather us miss the Playoffs and get better over the offseason than have that happen IN the Playoffs.

Torres misses a sinker above and outside middle 0-1 Misses a FB up in the zone, 0-2 FB at the top in the middle at 98.5, foul tipped into the mitt, K, inning over. Yanks lead 2-1 going bottom 10. Sweeney will be the ghost-runner. Tigers will send up Rogers or a PH, then back to the top for Meadows and Greene. Not sure who pitches for the Yanks. Holmes needed 22 pitches to cough up the lead in the 9th. It took Leiter 2. Much more efficient. 6, actually. Soooooo much better.

Leiter is trash.
Awesome work upgrading the bullpen, Cash!

They need bullpen help from somewhere, but I don't think Hamilton and Effross are it. 16 hits and 7 runs, 6 earned, in 8 1/3 innings for Leiter. I remember when Effross came over, he struggled his first couple of games, but by this point in time, he had figured things out and looked great...before he torn the UCL.

Well after his night tonight, I think the Martian's going to be deported back to Mars. Double clutch on the final play, seriously? Well...the Yankees didn't deserve to win this one anyway...2 "gift runs, on a wild pitch and the gift runner at 2...I repeat...I don't know how the Yankees have managed to hang on to first place all season with the inconsistencies on this team. smh.

Somehow, someway Cashman's deadline acquisitions made the bullpen WORSE. Bravo... Cashman has that magic touch about him. It will get worse if Neely is up with the Cubs in September and pitching well.

Holmes will kill any chance this team has in the playoffs. There is NO QUESTION Holmes will not be able to close out a playoff game against a good team. It has been that way all season and it will continue to be that way. There is NO EXCUSE for Cashman not to have recognized the need for a legitimate closer. It is so obvious...
