Since June 1 the Astros returned to being a "powerhouse" team. They won 43 of the 66 games played. Playoffs are always hard to predict but I don't think there is parity in the AL. Since March 28 Yanks won 45 of the 66 games played. 18 of the 30 teams are above .500 w a couple others hovering around .500. says these good teams are feasting on the have nots but none are really breaking away from the field which is where the "parity" comes in.
at the end of the day, whoever gets "hot" at the right time and breaks ahead of the field will win. through june 12 we were that "hot" team then the wheels came off. right now it's the astro's followed by the dbacks and maybe the padres. at this point, i'd certainly rather be in the astros position who are clearly hitting on all cyclinders. btw we are 6-1 against them. that was of course when we were hot and they're weren't.
37 games left. can the astros sustain it. can we get it back. remains to be seen. they certainly have the momentum. fwiw through our high water mark on june 12, holmes had a 1.23 ERA and a "respectable" 86% save rate. 5.23 ERA and 50% save rate since. and of course we've been 24-31. not the only reason but a huge part of it.

Just says to me that teams, like players, go thru hot & cold spells over the course of a long season. Houston has been in a hot spell. They were 30-36 (.455) thru the first 66 games. Others...Orioles - 44-22 (.667) / Guardians - 43-23 (.652) / Phillies - 46-20 (.697) / Dodgers - 41-25 (.621). They've all come back to earth...just like the Yanks.
