That went a long way without being a HR. Not as long without a HR as Wells' two shots to the wall, metaphorically speaking. Either of those would've won the game. Verdugo falls behind 1-2. Rolls over on a curve to Noel. Takes it to bag. Perfect ending. So perfect, it's almost too on the nose. Yanks lose 9-5, their 2nd loss in a row, and 3rd in 4 games. Fall back to 20 games over .500 at 73-53. Drop out of 1st place, losing a game to the O's, the Sox and the Jays, and maybe the Rays as well. If so, they're now 1/2 game behind the O's, 6 1/2 up on the Red Sox, 9 1/2 up on the Rays (assuming they beat the A's) and 14 up on the Jays. And lose Gil to a back strain, not sure if he's going on the IL, or for how long. Well, that could explain why he can't get the slider down most of the time. No stars of the game tonight, although most of the Yankee relievers did a great job. I'd like to preview tomorrow's game, but Cleveland's starter still hasn't been officially announced. Fangraphs thinks they'll call up lefty starter Joey Cantillo from AAA. Rotowire confirms via a report from Zack Meisel of the Athletic, If so, he's the #13 prospect in their farm system on Fangraphs, giving him an overall 40+ grade. His has very good curve and an excellent change, an average fastball, but below average slider and control. He missed the first half with some sort of injury, but has made 8 starts in AAA with an ERA of 2.97. 45 K's and just 3 HR in 33 1/3 innings, but also 28 hits and 21 BB. Regardless of who goes for the Guardians, it's Nestor Cortes for the Yanks. Nestor threw his best game in two months and his best game on the road, but it was against the White Sox, and now he has to face a real team. Nestor is 6-10 on the season with a 4.20 ERA, yet somehow he remains in the AL top 10 in K/BB ratio and fewest BB per 9 innings. Game preview sorta done, I'll check my late notifications...

Freeman pinch runs for J. Naylor. Not sure who'll play 1st in the bottom, have to take a look at that at some point. Probably Noel. Good call; I didn't know he was also a firstbaseman, and now I do.

DJ LeMahieu down to .189/.263/.249. Give Peraza and Oswaldo some more playing time. Anything than having to watch DJ any more, please!

Did anyone notice if Verdugo is still jogging his fat ass towards first base with the last out from that game last night ? At the speed he was going I figure he should have gotten there about 9 o'clock this morning.

Perhaps, it wasn't entirely Grisham's fault last night.
