I'm really impressed with what Nestor did today. That was big time! Manly man's game by Nasty Nestor getting the entire pen the day off except Mayza.

That was pretty much best case scenario. Nestor gives some length and the offense is good enough to allow us to use an expendable piece for 2 innings resting everyone else. Nice win. On to the next one.

Yanks win, 8-1, breaking the 3 games losing streak, moving the Yanks back to 21 games over .500, 74-53.
Sox have won, O's have lost, so the Yanks will move back into 1st, 1/2 game ahead of Baltimore and stay 6 1/2 ahead of the Sox. Reds have rallied from 6-0 down to take a 10-6 lead on the Jays. If that holds, Yanks will be 15 ahead of Toronto again. A's and Rays just about to start in Oakland, Rays come into that game, 10 behind the Yanks.

the win puts us back in 1st place as the orioles lost. in line for a series win with cole pitching tomorrow.
tonite was the soto judge nestor show. gonna play solomon and call soto & nestor co-potg despite judge's 2 HRs. soto got us on the board in the 1st and his double blew it open. nestor followed up his 7 inning 3-hit performance with another one against a more formidable team. in command the entire time. of course judge needs a mention. maybe even gleyber for his 2-hit nite and hustle. and mayza doesn't give the game away!!!!

If Soto and Judge combine to drive in 8 runs every night the Yankees are going to win a lot !!!!

Welp...3 stars of the game...HM? Mayza I suppose, gets a little red star on his notebook for finishing up the last 2 innings without involving any other reliever even warming...Gleyber Torres, 2 hits 2 runs, the first hit in front of Soto's HR in the 1st that got the Yanks started, the 2nd hit was beating out an infield grounder by an eyelash with 2 down, getting Soto up there for his game breaker.
I dunno, you hit two HRs, one of them a pretty big deal turning a 2-0 game into a 4-0 game, giving your starter plenty of room for error, and whaddya get? It gets Aaron Judge nothing better than 3rd star of the game, that's what!
2nd star of the game: it's a coin-toss, really. But...he's had so many nights this season, I don't think Juan Soto would mind taking 2nd chair tonight. 2-run HR in the 1st to get the Yanks off flying after the dreadful hitting last night that led to the Mayza/Tonkin meltdown in the 12th, a 3-run excuse me double to break it open and crush the Guardians in the 4th, just another in a seemingly unending supply of great moments/games for the Hall of Fame candidate playing RF for the Yanks this year.
1st star of the game: The Nasty One. With the bullpen worn down, it was actually Nestor who set the tone BEFORE Soto's HR, wiping out the top 3 in the Cleveland order on just 9 pitches. Going 7, fighting through 26 pitches in the 7th to get yet another 1-2-3, and getting everyone in the pen except Mopup Mayza a day of rest. His 2nd straight win, his 2nd straight 7 innings of shutout ball, this time against a much better lineup than the woeful White Sox. Nestor gets to 7-10 on the season, and his ERA is back down to an even 4.00. Take a Nasty Bow, Nestor!

Tomorrow's finale kiddie mid-week matinee at the Stadium before school begins starts at 1:08 on YES. The rubber game of the 3-game series as well. For the Guardians, the Yanks get a righty this time, an oddball of sorts in Gavin Williams. FB heavy (more than 50%), he throws hard, 97 on the FB, throws four other pitches. He hasn't allowed many HR this year, but has given up hits, walked fewer guys than last year, and K'd fewer as well. He's been very up-and-down the last 6-7 starts. The Yanks like to face righties and like to hit fastballs, so something's gotta give. Let's hope it's Williams, who's 2-5 on the season with a 5.02 ERA, and was hit hard by the Brewers last time (if he follows his pattern, he's due for a good game then...)
For the Yanks, a similar, but more polished and dominant veteran ace-type, Gerrit Cole. He struggled in his first 6 starts, getting bombed by the intra-city rival Mets twice, but has been outstanding the last 3 starts, giving up just 3 runs in 17 innings with a 22-4 K/BB ratio. Cole is now 4-2 on the season with a 4.15 ERA.
Preview done, I have to catch up with notifications...

Every time Nestor is declared dead his heart starts pumping again… Stroman has been sort of that way, too. Oh, and Rodon, and Cole. Even Schmidt is starting to show signs of a rebirth. Our starting pitchers are vampires. I’m okay with it…
