I've heard or read "speedball" for fastball a number of time before Springsteen's 'Glory Days' use of it. It didn't throw me that much. It's possible that there's a sinister double entendre in it in the song, but I doubt it. FB up and in, taken, 3-1 Change misses low, ball 4. Man on 1st, 2 down for Naylor. Never heard the word in terms of baseball before the Springsteen song. Pharmacology, yes. Baseball, no. |

I've heard or read "speedball" for fastball a number of time before Springsteen's 'Glory Days' use of it. It didn't throw me that much. I've been playing, watching, coaching baseball for 65+ years. Thankfully have NEVER heard "speedball" applied to baseball before or since Springsteen from anyone who follows the game. |

Looks like Tonkin will come in to pitch the 9th with a 6-run cushion.
He'll face Cleveland's 5-6-7: Noel, Gimenez and Hedges.

Slider starts at him, stays just inside, taken, 2-2. Wells though it was strike 3, hesitates, but it missed.

Well spotted slider breaks low on the corner away, swung over, K, 1 down.
