Gimenez takes a FB a bit up and away, 1-0 Takes a FB inside below the waist, 2-0 FB above the zone, pulled deep but well foul down the right side, 2-1 Sinker starts for the corner low/away, dives out of the zone, Gimenez chases for strike 2. Slider starts thigh high, middle out, drops well low, middle in, he swings over it for the K, 2 down.

Lead-off single was the only hit the Guardians had. Good series win against a quality team.

Hedges is the last chance for Cleveland. Takes a FB more or lees down the middle, Slider above the knees in the middle is rolled over to Cabrera at 3rd, he sets and throws it to Rice, Game over, Yanks win 6-0! A combined 1-hitter for Cole and three relievers, the only hit was Kwan's leadoff single, a solid liner to right in front of Soto.
The Yanks win their 2nd straight, getting back to 22 over .500 at 75-53 with the Rockies coming in for 3 games over the weekend.
Yanks gain a 1/2 game on the idle Red Sox; they're now 7 games behind again. For the moment, they gain 1/2 game on the rest of the East, and have the best record in the AL. Now behind only the Dodgers, who, having been challenged by the hot streaks of the Padres and D'backs, have all of sudden gotten hot themselves, winning 4 in a row and 10 of their last 13.

Players of the game...HM to the bullpen, 3 solid innings in relief, no hits, no runs. Volpe for a double 2 walks, a steal and a run. Wells for a timely sac fly to make it 2-0. Rice with a timely walk setting up that big 4-run 5th, and a sac fly of his own.
3rd star of the Game...Judge for the solo HR that pierced Williams' invincibilty in the 4th, and gave the Yanks the lead. 2nd star of the Game...Stanton for the 3-run HR I had no idea was going to carry on a slider just outside near the bottom, that broke the game open. Big Dude is STRONG. 1st star of the Game...Gerrit Cole, who didn't have his best stuff or command, striking out just 2 and walking 5, but shut out the Guardians on 1 hit for 6 innings, and got his 2nd win in a row in his 4th strong start in a row, raising his record to 5-2 and lowering his once-bloated ERA to 3.72. Not having his best, and still 1-hitting a pretty good team for 6 scoreless innings? That's an Ace's Game, folks.

The Rockies come in next, a 3-game series over the weekend. All 3 games on YES. YES!!
Friday evening game is at the usual 7:07 pm: Yanks face another lefty, veteran Kyle Freeland (3-5, 5.97 ERA). Freeland had a run of 4 good starts just before and after the break, but has struggled lately, 0-2 with a 6.85 ERA in his last 5 starts. Carlos Rodon starts for the Yanks. He's 13-8 with a 4.34 ERA. He got him hard by the Tigers last time after throwing 4 good starts in row.
Saturday afternoon's game starts at 1:07 pm: Righty rookie Bradley Blalock makes his 3rd MLB start for the Rockies. He's 0-0 with a 2.92 ERA in just 12 innings. He pitched a good game last time vs. the Padres, giving up just 1 run in 5 2/3 inning, but got a no-decision. Marcus Stroman (8-6, 3.82 ERA) starts for the Yanks; he had just about pitched himself out of the rotation with 6 bad starts from his last start in June through his first start in August, but has turned it around with back to back good starts against Texas and Detroit.
Sunday's game is the usual slightly delayed start at 1:37 pm. Yanks face another lefty, Austin Gomber (4-8, 4.64 ERA. Gomber had a bad run of 5 beating in 6 starts from late June through the end of July, but has come back to pitch 3 good ones in his last 4 games, including good ones against the Padres 4 starts ago, and against the D'backs two starts ago. Not having been used in long relief yesterday or today, Will Warren is almost certain to take the start on Sunday, he was hit hard his first two starts, but did a credible job against a terrible White Sox team, giving up just 2 runs in 5 innings, and keeping the Yanks in the game until they broke it open with 3 in the 8th and 6 in the 9th in a 10-2 win in the rubber game in Chicago. Warren is 0-1 with an 8.59 ERA, 19 hits and 3 HR allowed in 14 2/3 innings, but also 17 K's.
Series preview down, I go to check notifications.

While that fact may be true, I'd bet my bottom dollar that if John Belushi had not died of a "Speedball" mix of drugs a couple of years before Springsteen wrote his song (which put the term in the limelight), that word would have never been used in the lyrics for Glory Days...Not unless Springsteen actually grew up in 1918. Just my own personal opinion.

If you put in a little olive oil, it won't boil over and create a mess.
