Kwan takes a curve in the zone, thigh high near middle, 0-1 Takes a FB inside, 1-1 Change tails waist high, outer 3rd, Kwan rolls it over to Torres, easy play, throws him out, inning over.
Long at bat for Rocchio, but still a solid 1-2-3 for Cole, 14 pitches and 81 through 5. He'll have to faced Brennand, Ramirez and J. Naylor in the 6th, so that's probably his last inning today, unless he gets lucky on some quick outs.
Bottom 5, 1-0 Yanks. Rice, then back to the top for Torres and especially Soto to get their 3rd look at Williams.

This is the Cole I want to see in October! Maybe you'll see it if they play Cleveland. Probably not against the Red Sox or Mets.

Rice swings over a change at the bottom near middle, 0-1 Gets a fat change above and outside middle, fouls it off. Sigh. 0-2. Curve bounced over home, taken, 1-2 FB runs up and away, he starts but checks well in time, 2-2 Cutter...right...down...the middle. He's late and under. Fouled. Sigh sigh. Good take on a curve that started above the waist, dropped well low, inner half, 3-2 Change to the outside corner, waist high, but he's late and under again, fouled off. Good take on the two plane change going out of the zone, low/away, ball 4. Excellent BB by Rice, considering he fouled off 3 hittable pitches.

Torres takes a FB on the corner away, a bit up in the zone. Doesn't like the call, but it WAS a strike. Cutter to the same spot, and he takes again, and is behind the 8-ball at 0-2. Cutter yanked outside, easy take, 1-2 Throw over on the dangerous speedster Rice, and he barely gets back. SMDH.

Gets under a FB way up and in, Torres has to lean out of the way, but it wasn't going to hit him, too high, 2-2 Cutter yanked low/away again. Williams might be running out of gas. Command is vanishing. Good spoil! More or less the same FB he took for strike one at 98, fouled off. Another good spoil, FB at the top at 97, fouled straight back. Really pulling Williams' cork, here. Cutter would've missed low/away, but close enough so he coouldn't easily take it, fouls that one off too. Another good spoil!! FB tailing back to the corner away at 97, fouls is off.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Curve drops JUST low, outer half, and Williams hops up and down thinking it was a strike, but it just missed, even on the Statcast zone which give an extra 2 inches or so top and bottom, ball 4. 1st and 2nd, nobody out, with Soto and Judge due in. Willis goes out to give Williams a rest before he faces... THE GAUNTLET.

Cutter yanked down and in, easy take for Soto, 1-0., Cutter drops into the zone low/away, taken, 1-1 3rd look at Williams for Soto, he oughts be able to at least hit something pretty hard. Cutter into the top of the zone, outer 3rd, fouled off, 1-2 Takes his timeout. Takes a long time to deliver. Cutter stays just outside, fouled down. All cutter so far. Then humps up on the FB that's 3 inches high, outer half, fouled back to the left a bit.

Cutter low, inner half, pulled to the right side, could be two, Gimenez to Rochhio for the force, but Soto got out of the box well, so Rocchio eats the relay.
Vogt won't let Williams go any farther, bring in one of his very tough righties. "The pacifier" Sandlin, in for the Guardians. Williams' day is done after 98 pitches in 4 1/3 innings.

Judge has faced Sandlin once and walked. Wells has never faced him, if it gets to Wells, and I hope it does.
1st and 3rd, 1 down, Judge up.

Slider misses low, Naylor pulled it up, no sale, 1-0 Slider yanked WAY outside, 2-0 on Judge. And they go ahead and IBB Judge. Infield will be back for Wells, looking for the DP grounder in his first ever AB vs. Sandlin.

That works too. Cutter on the corner away, driven to pretty deep left center, Freeman goes back to his left, catches, Rice scores, 2-0 Yanks! Good job, rookie!!

Stanton is 0-2 vs. Sandlin, both K's Takes the only good pitch he's gonna see, a FB outside middle low in the zone, 0-1 OK, so I was wrong, 93 FB in the zone a bit up and in, fouled back. Hittable, and he misses it. Sigh. Bounces a splitter, takes it, 1-2 Buzzes the tower with that almost submarine sinker up and in, Stanton leans back, 2-2 Slider stays in a hittable spot, just outside waist high, fouled off again. Sigh. Bounces another splitter, 3-2.
