Sorry I missed this one but I was at a Deep Purple concert with YES opening up. Yes, "old man" concert as my kids called it, but 3/5 of the Deep Purple "Machine Head" lineup are still together and they can still play and they're still loud as ever. During the show, my son texted me "#49" and I knew exactly what he meant. Great to see another well pitched game, the Yanks needed that with Warren going today. Glad to hear you had a great time at the concert! I have Owner of a Lonely heart on my playlist. The only YES song I know, lol. "Your Move" and "Roundabout" were their first two big hits Kaybli. For my money both are better than OOALH.

As long as Ian Gillan is lead vocalist and you have Roger Glover up there with Ian Paice on drums -- the only one who's been with the band since it started -- it's recognizably Deep Purple. I was in Montreux a few years ago and stayed in the hotel Deep Purple stayed in back in the 70s when they wrote "Smoke On The Water" about the fire they could see from the hotel. My only brush with Deep Purple immortality. that's a cool story about Montreux, Pipps. At least it's still there and didn't catch fire from some "stupid" with a flare gun. I was impressed with the two Ian's. Gillan can't scream like he used to but the voice is still there and Paice's drumming is still strong. I always thought he was an underrated drummer.

They also played Yours is no Disgrace, which is probably my favorite YES song.

They only played 70's YES because no one from the 80's lineup are in the band anymore. I saw "Yes" here with Chris Squire in one of the last concerts he played before his death. "Owner of a Lonely Heart" was on the set list, as well as all of their familiar songs. I've read that most "Yes" band members didn't care for "Owner of a Lonely Heart"; that it was done to get the band back on the charts.

Also, "I've Seen All Good People - Your Move" their first "hit"... www.youtube.com/watch?v=WfgPEh2J9aI

In the same vein, I'm going to see Grand Funk Railroad tonight. Unfortunately, Mark Farner doesn't play with them anymore, but Don and Mel do. Guess that's why they're playing the Winterville Watermelon Festival. Reckon they'll help us "party it down" nevertheless.

I’m more like Sigmund Freud. All I do is listen… and sometimes a flute is just a flute 🪈…

"roundabout" may be the "hardest" tune i've seen anyone do though "move/good people" is no walk in the park. still trying to figure out how to sing it because jon anderson is way out of my range. guy has an amazing voice and of course they're all incredible musicians. saw them a number of times way back. really loved their first couple albums before i stopped following them.

I didn't know Farmer was no longer with the band, he seemed to be the one guy holding them together. Sometimes, it's hard to figure what decade we're in with all this bands from 70's/80's still touring. Tonight, at the same venue I saw Deep Purple, Styx, Foreigner and John Waite are playing. Tomorrow night it's the Doobie Brothers.

As I'm sure you know, Steve Howe is an incredible guitarist. I've seen him do "Mood for a Day" live several times. Awesome. Live - www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWAhVeGcvjYwww.youtube.com/watch?v=CxUG33NaGmMJon Anderson had left Yes the last time I saw them live. Coincidentally the guy who replaced him is also named "Jon" Davison...and he does a very good job.

Yeah, it would have been great to see Squire since he was an amazing bass player and drove their songs. The 90125 album, which had Owner of a Lonely Heart on it, was originally supposed to be a side project by Squire and a couple other members of YES, but then two other YES guys joined in and it just became a new YES record. The album went on to be by far their most commercially successful release.

It was just him on stage with his guitar and it sounded great.
