Way too many heroes today...momentum wise, the big three are Soto-Judge-Stanton for the fireworks display in the 7th for the Evil Empire that crushed the life out of the Insignificant Rebellion for today. But...
Honorable Mentions: Stroman, for battling through 5, without top command, and dealing with multiple bad plays behind him adding to his pitchcount. He lasted five and for the games he lost earlier that the bullpen blew, he deserves this "cheap W". He's now 9-6 on the year. To the bullpen, especially Kahnle in the 6th, and Cousins in the 7th. Yes, the Rockies almost got Cousins twice, but they didn't. To Stanton, for the 3rd of the back-to-back-to-backers, establishing for today which team is the contender and which is the pretender. Finally for Verdugo and DJ, who both had two hits, both starting rallies in the 2nd and 8th, scoring 2 runs each. If only we could be sure they'll keep going...
3rd star of the game: Soto, again. RBI single in the 2nd, capping the 2-run rally to make it 4-1. Walk in the 5th to start the rally that loaded the bases but came to nothing when Mahnley got hit by the shattered bat, freezing everyone out. And with the game too close in the 7th, and everyone's sphincter starting tighten, the towering shot to the back of the bullpen to let everyone breathe again, and setting up the pyrotechnics that followed.
2nd star of the game: To Torres... Today: 6-pitch walk in the first, scoring on the Captain's first blast, line single to left to score a big insurance run in the 2-run rally in the 2nd, making it 3-1. 3-run HR in the 8th, the cherry on the 5-HR Sunday Sundae for the final 10-3 margin. Even if it was just the Rockies. Even better, he LOOKS like a real leadoff man right now, and if he is for real in the role, that solves a huge problem plaguing the team for most of the season. He failed in his first attempt in the role early in the season, but since being moved back to the top 8/16, he's 10-33 with two doubles, 1 HR, 10 runs, 3 RBi, 6 K's and 8 BB and more than a few PA where he worked the count, even if it resulted in an out. .303/.409/.455 as the leadoff man, and that'll play. Big-time.
1st star of the game, of the team, of this season, of the AL, of MLB: Aaron Judge: 2-run bomb in the 1st to take the early 2-0 lead, walk in the 5th to keep the rally that wasn't going. The Smoltz Memorial Cheapie in the 7th, in the middle of the back-to-back-to-backers. Witt's the most valuable player in the league in terms of current AND future value because he's so brilliant and so young, but unless Judge has a big collapse from here, he's on his way to THE M...V...P...Trophy. Again. And maybe onto 62 HRs again. Or maybe more.

You're a HR behind now, lauren. My tablet was frozen in the middle of the post. Had to run across my house to get on my desktop to repost it. In the middle of my repost, Stanton jacked one of which I didn't see. No problemo. You're all with it now, along with the rest of us.

Playing big-time catch-up... Soto's 38th HR: 102.7 mph, 418 feet, 29° launch angle a HR in 41 of 30 parks. Judge's 51st HR and 2nd of the game: 103.3 mph, 371 feet, 38° launch angle, a HR in just this park (Smoltz spikes the football, does his Billy "White Shoes" Johnson chicken dance.) Stanton's 23rd HR: 110.4 mph, 425 feet, 22° launch angle, a HR in just 29 of 30 MLB Parks. (I'll best the one that "isn't a HR" in is Coors, which doesn't account for the 5-10% extra carry at high altitude. And I'd be wrong. Stanton's HR doesn't carry in Chase Field, which has a dead centerfield of 407 feet, and Stanton's HR was 422 feet, but low angle, and the CF wall in Chase is 25 feet high.

was checking the score on the golf course (friends luv when i ask siri for the yankee score). got home to see mayza pick up the "save" .
watched the highlights - the bombers broke open a close game against the rockies' terrible bullpen as they should. 51 HRs w a week left in august. absolutely amazing. we are very lucky to be living in the judge era. a generational player. last player who was this unstoppable was bonds and of course his was 'roid aided. soto keeping on and 3 games w a HR in a row for stanton. gleyber with a 4 RBI game. maybe verdugo's HR yesterday has gotten him back on track and DJ's 2 hits puts him on the off-ramp on the interstate. if those 3 get going, the ceiling just got raised for this team.
stroman was good enough and another shutdown outing from the pen.
btw ran into these guys "guarding" my ball. there's a 3rd baby up the tree. actually they were more interested in the crab apples than my ball.

Yanks head down to D.C. to play the Nationals. The 3-game series goes through Wednesday, and as Kay mentioned during today's game the Nats have lefties lined up to make all three starts...
Game 1 tomorrow evening at 6:45 pm on YES: Nestor Cortes (7-10, ERA an even 4.00) has thrown back-to-back starts of 7 shutout innings after a long slump; he starts and hopes to make it three. Rookie Mitchell Parker (7-7, 4.26 ERA) throws for Washington; he got blasted for 9 runs in 3 innings two starts ago, but in the other 4 of his most recent 5 starts, he's 2-0 and had given up just 3 runs in 24 1/3 innings, and just 1 HR.
Game 2 is Tuesday evening, also at 6:45 pm on YES: Gerrit Cole (5-2, 3.72 ERA) hopes to make it 5 good starts in a row for the Yanks. Former post-season hero Patrick Corbin (3-12, 5.73) throws for the Nats, his only good start in the last 5 came in his previous game against these same Rockies, 1 run in 6 innings with 8 K's and just 1 BB for that 3rd win.
Game 3 is Wednesday evening, also at 6:45 pm, but unfortunatlely on Amazon Prime, so I'll be the usual 3-4 pitches behind. Carlos Rodon (14-8, 41.6 ERA) hopes to back up his good start against the Rockies in the first game of this series with another; MacKenzie Gore (7-11, 4.51 ERA) was having a very good season at the end of May, 2.91 ERA in his first 11 starts. Had a long bad slump, going 3-5 in his next 12 games with a 6.46 ERA, but has pitched better again lately: 3.45 ERA his last three games, but no wins. He's still a lefty and a threat to the Yanks because of that.
Series preview done, one final check of notifications...

I know I am late to the party here but I was AT the Stadum Sunday sitting high up behind home plate and it might just be the best experience I have had at a game. Being there to see Judge hit 50 and 51 and the back to back to back jacks was just awesome. The crowd was great. I have probably been to about 20-25 games in my life and that was my best Yankee stadium game for sure. I was at a game in 2010 in Baltimore where A-Rod came up in the top of the 9th down by 2 with 2 on and hit a 3-run homerun. This was back when the O's were terrible and the place was packed with Yankee fans so I feel like I can still hear how loud it was when that happened. It was my very first game in-person and I always heard that you can tell if it's a HR by the crack of the bat and that was 100% true. I heard the crack and saw the ball fly out of the infield and then lost sight of it because everyone jumped up but knew it was gone. Anyway that might still be my favorite in-person game but this was a close second for sure.
