Tries a backdoor slider misses by 2-3 inches, 1-0
Same pitch, misses both down and away by a bit, 2-0
3rd straight slider, this one winds up in the middle above the knees, taken, 2-1
Slider down and in, he starts, they check at 3rd, no swing.
Sinker tails well outside, taken, ball 4.
Chaparro up with a chance to make this a 1-run game.

Slider breaks all the way to the corner away, swung on and misses.
Tries to scissors with a sinker to the corner away, misses well outside, 1-1
Sinker above and inside middle, good swing but it ties him up just a bit, and his fliner to right is a relatively easy play for Soto, inning over.
Welp, unless the Yanks score a couple of runs, this game will be in the hands of He who is Holmes.
Good thing the Yanks send up Soto-Judge-Stanton, I guess. I hope.

Soto vs. Ferrer...
Sinker well high, not close, called a strike anyway. Soto gives a grimace and he's right, no way was that a strike.
Sinker at the low outside corner, and he gets that one, too, 0-2. That one WAS a strike, at least.
Takes his timeout.

And remember Debby Boone is married to the son of Jose Ferrer and Rosemary Clooney. She lights up his life.  In one of my more quixotic assignments in my reporting days, I once had lunch with Debby Boone and Rich Little and two other reporters. They were appearing at the long-gone Valley Forge Music Fair and a few local papers were invited to meet them and review the show. Little was absolutely hilarious and very talkative. Debby was quite reserved but very sweet. |

Wow...sinker at 99, but right...down...the middle.
Judge fouls it back, 0-1
Change misses below the corner away, 1-1
Sinker hits the inside corner at 100, that one NOT called, Judge got a break on that one, 40% on Gameday, 2-1
Sinker in the zone low/away, lined over 1st toward the corenr, Judge stops at 1st with a single, his 1000th MLB hit!

Wells takes a Fb inside, ball 1 Swings over a slider dropping low in the middle, 1-1 FB inside corner, thigh high, drop the bat happy zone and he happily drops the bat on it, belts it out to right, solo HR makes it 3-0 Yanks!!!  |
